A tourist was killed this week after being hit by a bus while crossing a pedestrian crosswalk on Tulum Avenue in Cancun. The tourist, a woman, reportedly died at the scene from the impact of the vehicle.

The vehicle in question was from the Yellowbus company, a private coach-style bus transportation service that operates for tourists in the Cancun area.

Local reports have stated that the driver was “driving recklessly” and ran over the woman while she was crossing near a pedestrian crosswalk. The incident reportedly occurred a few meters from a marked pedestrian crosswalk near the busy “El Ceviche” roundabout where Tulum and Coba Avenues intersect towards Kukulkan Avenue, which is in the thick of Cancun’s tourist area.

The incident happened on Wednesday, November 23, in the middle of the day.

Use extreme caution when driving in the area,” an English translation of the announcement that was made via their official Twitter page.

Traffic Accidents in Cancun – Information For Travelers

This week’s tragic event was not the only vehicle accident in Cancun making the headlines this week. Later the same day, a car crashed into a palm tree, seriously injuring one tourist and injuring two others on the scene.

While pedestrian accidents are not fairly common in Cancun, despite how busy it is with traffic constantly flowing throughout the day, an increasing number of traffic accidents have been reported in 2022. Fatalities such as this one due to traffic incidents, however, are still very rare in Cancun and the surrounding region.
