Multiple records were broken by Cancun International Airport last year, and there has been no slowing in the number of passengers arriving at the airport this year.
In fact, Cancun Airport is now the busiest in all of Mexico for a number of reasons.
There’s no question that Cancun is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico, but it isn’t the only reason the airport is the busiest in the country.
There are a few other reasons for this.
Connectivity To Other International Airports
Cancun Airport has amazing connectivity with other international airports, especially the United States and Canada.
Altogether, routes to Cancun with stopovers are offered from more than 200 cities worldwide.
Furthermore, a total of 52 airlines provide these flights from cities around the world to Cancun.

Availability Of Direct Flights
Currently, you can fly direct to Cancun from 38 U.S. cities, with some airports offering more than 200 flights per month, and more than 300 on the busiest direct route, from Dallas-Fort Worth to Cancun.
Direct flights to Cancun are also currently available from eight Canadian cities.
And during the busy winter and spring months, even more flights from both countries will undoubtedly be added.

@missexclusive4 Replying to @littlemizznokia my @Frontierairlines experience was great! Not only did I save $500, but I also had a direct flight to #CancunMexico , the customer service, flight experience and seat worked well for me. I insured my trip and prepaid for a carry on, so I had priority boarding. I recommend it based on this experience.👏🏽👏🏽 #frontierairlines #internationalflights #cheaptravel #frontierairlinesreview #cancun2022 ♬ Cool Kids (our sped up version) – Echosmith
Ability To Serve Millions Of Customers
Cancun International Airport has four terminals to serve domestic and international tourists, in addition to a terminal to handle private flights.
Between the different terminals, there are nearly 100 gates for arrivals and departures.
The size of the airport allows it to serve the millions of passengers that arrive each year, which was more than 30 million in 2022.

Fantastic Facilities For Arriving And Departing Visitors
In addition to having the capacity to handle millions of annual visitors, Cancun Airport also has the facilities to comfortably serve that many passengers.
There are multiple loungers for departing guests to access for a fee or on a complimentary basis for certain credit card holders.
There are also more than 20 restaurants to choose from in the departure terminals, as well as duty-free stores for shopping before departing from the country.
Improved Technology For Easier Entry Upon Arrival
Improvements in technology have made it easier than ever to get through immigration and customs at Cancun Airport.
The new electronic immigration system has greatly reduced waiting times upon arrival.
Some estimates and figures show that the new system has reduced those wait times to as little as 30 seconds, allowing visitors to arrive and get their vacation started much more quickly than before.
Close Proximity To Other Amazing Vacation Destinations
One of the biggest reasons for Cancun Airport being the busy hub that it has become is its close proximity to so many other amazing vacation destinations.
Tourists traveling to Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Tulum, and even as far away as Holbox overwhelmingly choose Cancun Airport as their arrival point.
This is due to the better connectivity than any other airport in the region and the wide range of transportation options to get from the airport to these other destinations.
The Future Of Cancun Airport
The completion of the new Tulum Airport, which is expected to be done by December of this year, will no doubt take away some of the traffic at Cancun Airport.
But as the popularity of not only Cancun but so many other destinations in the Mexican Caribbean continues to grow, there will be plenty of passengers to go around.
It will be interesting to see if, once Tulum Airport is completed, Cancun Airport will continue to be the busiest in the country.
