Foodies will be delighted to know that Cancun will soon launch a brand new ‘Taco Route’ for travelers and locals to enjoy the best of this Mexican delicacy.
Tacos are widely recognized as one of Mexico’s most emblematic dishes, and Cancun may very well be one of the best locations to try them.
Cancun’s new Ruta de los Tacos will be built around taquerias in the downtown area, which is home to the lion’s share of the city’s taco vendors.
The new initiative will make it easier for travelers to discover the top restaurants and how to reach them.
Cancun Officials To Amplify City’s Tourism Offer
With more and more travelers flocking to Cancun for its tropical beaches and year-round weather, officials are looking to offer visitors a greater range of attractions.
This time around, they are focusing on one of the country’s most classic dishes: tacos.
This week, authorities announced that Cancun would soon begin to offer a new Ruta de los Tacos (Tacos Route) that will traverse some of the city’s most iconic taquerías.
This most recent addition is just one of many food-centric initiatives the city is working on.
The new taco route will be especially geared towards travelers, who will not only get to experience one of the country’s tastiest dishes but also discover new parts of Cancun.
While the city’s resort zone also offers plenty of taco stalls, they are overpriced compared to those found in downtown Cancun.

Cancun’s new taco route is expected to diversify the array of attractions available to travelers, all while providing a more cultural experience to visitors.
Millions of travelers flock to the seaside resort destination but are often left lacking exposure to local culture and food – a situation authorities aim to fix.
The new route will be available for travelers starting at the end of April this year, and more than 35 companies have already signed up to become part of the initiative.
However, officials expect more restaurants to join later on as the program expands.
Cancun’s tourism board will soon publish the city’s first official taco route, which will include up to 5 different itineraries with a range of restaurants.
The color-coded routes will be displayed on a map that will be made available to travelers.
Most of the 35 restaurants that are currently participating in the initiative are located in Cancun’s downtown area, including Tulum and Nader avenue, while some are located further away in Kabaha and Nichupté avenues.
According to Enrique Morales, Cancun’s head of economic development, “our city’s profile is a hundred percent touristy, so what better than to launch a taco itinerary for travelers to easily find the best spots for tacos,” the official said in a statement.

$175 USD (3200 MXN) for tacos. That's a lot of tacos. Taco ingredients cost the same for everyone. An upscale taco should not cost more than 30 pesos. That's 100 tacos per person. If the tour company gets 1600 pesos per person that is still 50 tacos per person at high end price for a taco. That's a ripoff
