Cancun and Cozumel have become two of the top destinations to visit in the Mexican Caribbean, and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon.
Cancun International Airport, which is where not only Cancun tourists but many travelers visiting Cozumel also fly into due to its wider connectivity, is the second busiest airport in Mexico and one of the busiest in the world.
So it’s no surprise to see new routes or additional flights to Cancun Airport being added all the time, and now Delta is expanding service to Cancun and Cozumel this year as travel demand skyrockets.
New Seasonal Cancun Flights
The new seasonal Cancun flights will be from three major U.S. airports and will operate from December 16, 2023 through January 7, 2023.
Tickets for these flights went on sale on March 18th and are currently still available. The increase in flights are as follows:
- JFK to Cancun – Increase from 2 to 3 daily flights.
- ATL to Cancun – Increase from 6 to 7 daily flights.
- DTW to Cancun – Increase from 3 to 4 daily flights.

New Seasonal Cozumel Flights
Cozumel International Airport is much smaller than Cancun Airport and has less traffic due to its limited direct flights from the U.S.
But as the vacation destination continues to grow in popularity, the number of routes, and the availability of nonstop flights from U.S. airports, is increasing as well.
The new seasonal flights that will be available include:
- ATL to Cozumel – Daily nonstop service beginning November 5, 2023.
- Minneapolis to Cozumel – Three weekly flights will be added beginning December 16, 2023.

In addition, seasonally-inspired drinks will be offered on seasonal flights.
@justplanefit This Delta Airbus A350-900 just floats off the runway with such a majestic takeoff that left me speechless. The engines on this plane are just so quiet I could hardly even hear them. Plus the Data Airlines color scheme on the A350 looks so pretty. Okay I’m officially now a huge fan of this Airbus series. #aviation #airbus350 #a350 #deltaairlines #avgeek #airbuslovers #planespotting #skyharbor #rampagent #ramper #aviationtiktok #planes #aviators ♬ original sound – JustPlaneFit
Cancun
Cancun is an extremely popular vacation destination among American travelers, and in fact, out of the nearly 20 million tourists that visited Cancun in 2022, more than 5 million were from the United States.
It is the most visited city in Mexico due to the fact that it has so much to offer for travelers of any age.
Beautiful weather, stunning Caribbean beaches, and luxury all-inclusive resorts are only the beginning because Cancun has fascinating Mayan history to explore, jungles, cenotes, culture, and more too.

Cozumel
Cozumel, a gorgeous island off of the coast of Playa del Carmen, has also long been a favorite vacation destination among Americans as well.
It is a major cruise port that had more than 3 million passenger arrivals in 2022.
The island is only 9 miles wide and 32 miles long but has so much to offer, including fantastic snorkeling and diving, beautiful nature, culture and history, amazing white sand beaches with crystal clear turquoise waters, and an unforgettable island vibe.

Holiday Travel In The Mexican Caribbean
Both Cancun and Cozumel are even more popular during the winter and holiday seasons.
This is mostly due to the desire of travelers from places like the U.S. and Canada to escape the cold winter weather.
If you’re planning a trip during these months, you’ll want to plan early, starting with booking your flights through companies like Delta, which are already offering seasonal flights to these very popular vacation destinations.
