Planning a family vacation can be a lot of work. Making sure mom, dad, and the kids will all have a great time can be difficult if everyone enjoys different activities. But Cancun and the surrounding areas have some awesome options when it comes to family-friendly resorts, that will keep everyone – even notoriously hard-to-please teens – happy. Here are some of the best family resorts in and around Cancun for 2022.
Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya
One of the newest family resorts, with its focus firmly on making sure kids have the time of their lives, is the Nickelodeon Riviera Maya resort.
Try the oceanfront swim-up suites, which sleep up to 5 people and – bonus! – have 2 bathrooms so you can avoid those morning lines. There’s an onsite Aqua Park, where kids can explore 20+ water slides at Bikini Bottom Beach and Soak Summit Tower, chill on the lazy river, or the whole family can step up together and get slimed.
Elsewhere, kids can meet their favorite Nickelodeon characters at Club Nick, a kids club for 4-12 year-olds, enjoy child-friendly food options at Nick Bistro, and take part in special kid-themed entertainment all day and right into the evening.
Hotel Xcaret Mexico
One of Hotel Xcaret Mexico’s big draws is that, as a guest, you get to enjoy complimentary access to all of Xcaret’s parks, which represent some of the best theme and adventure parks in the Mexican Caribbean.
The resort offers an inviting, informal atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxing vacation. There are plenty of pools to choose from, plus a full program of activities at the kids club (Xiquillos) and the family club (Xiipal) to keep everyone in the family entertained. Airport transportation is included, making the resort transfer with kids and bags super easy, and there’s also complimentary transportation to the Xcaret parks.
The smallest rooms are a generous 757 sq ft and can comfortably accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. Each has stunning views across the ocean or jungle and is filled with Mexican art and handicrafts.
Generations Riviera Maya by Karisma
The Generations Riviera Maya resort prides itself on being a great choice for multi-generational families who want to vacation together. It’s an all-suite, all-oceanfront, all-gourmet resort, so there’s no compromise on the most important parts of your vacation.
The Eko Kids Club, suitable for under 12s, has everything needed to keep little ones entertained, with slides, video games, and ball pits to explore. If you have a little chef in the making, they can take part in the Little Eko Chefs program, where they’ll learn about nutrition as well as how to prepare simple dishes. Baby amenities like monitors, strollers, and sterilizers, are also provided, making life a little easier for parents. And teens aren’t left out – they can enjoy the family lounge, filled with video games, movies, and opportunities to socialize – in person, or virtually via the social media center.
Two and three-bedroom suites cater to larger family groups and can sleep up to 6 adults and 6 children – perfect for that long-awaited family vacation.
Hard Rock Riviera Maya
Hard Rock Hotels are notoriously fun for adults, but Hard Rock Riviera Maya is equally suitable for families, as it’s split between adults-only and family sections.
The Roxity Kids Club offers a varied program of activities, including quizzes, games, movies, and – of course – music. Suitable for 4-12 year-olds, your little ones will be excited to join their new friends for full days of fun, giving adults the opportunity to indulge in the spa, water activities, or to enjoy the gastronomic offerings.
Hard Rock Riviera Maya also has Rockaway Bay, a dedicated aqua park just for guests, where there are 8 slides for kids and 6 suitable for teens and adults, meaning everyone can join in the fun.
For families, adjoining rooms are available, giving your family group almost 1,000 sq ft to spread out in. There are nice in-room touches, especially for kids who get their own bathrobes and special toiletries, an Xbox 360, and candy and cookies in the room on arrival.
If you do decide you want to leave your resort during your vacation, here are some of the top family day trips from Cancun to consider.
