Cancun International Airport is the second busiest airport in Mexico, and earlier in the year, it was even ranked the 10th busiest airport in the world. It also receives the most international passengers in the country, having served 13.2 million international travelers last year, compared to the 10.1 million served by Mexico City International Airport in 2021, which is the busiest airport in Mexico. Cancun Airport’s largest market is the United States, and there are 41 U.S. cities with direct flights to Cancun this winter.
December is the beginning of the busy season in Cancun, and it runs through April, with spring break and the Easter holiday being the peak of the season. More than 22 million people have already passed through Cancun International Airport already this year, and thousands more are expected during the last month of 2022. These are record-breaking numbers for the airport, which between 2019 and 2021, jumped from 61 to 10 on the list of the world’s busiest airports.
The flights for December can range in price considerably depending on a number of factors, especially the dates that you choose to fly. Typically you can save some money by flying earlier in the week, specifically on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and flying on the holidays is usually cheaper as well.
