Three prestigious hotels near Cancun have made it onto the list of the world’s leading properties in this year’s edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels.
Published by the prestigious UK-based William Reed, the list is elaborated by a panel of hoteliers, travel experts, and journalists.
The viral list takes a deep dive into the winning formulas behind some of the world’s top properties, many of which are close to Cancun.
With their prime beachfront location, excellent amenities, and cozy decor, it’s no wonder that hotels in the Mexican Caribbean continue to make up a sizeable portion of the world’s top accommodations.
This year, three Mexican Caribbean properties are featured among the world’s 50 best hotels. But unlike other lists, which largely feature large resorts, these smaller boutique-style accommodations offer quaint retreats and plenty of privacy.
With travel to the Mexican Caribbean set to soar towards the end of 2024, here’s the lowdown on which hotels made it to the top of the list in this year’s edition.
Chablé Yucatán – Luxury Wellness Infused With Jungle Vibes
When most people think of Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean, a wellness retreat hidden in the jungle is usually not the first thing that comes to mind.
But Chablé Yucatán, with its 40 lavish suites, proves that luxury doesn’t have to come in big sizes. A mere 25 minutes from one of the most historic cities in Yucatán, this upscale rainforest retreat is a treat for the mind and the body alike.
This year, this modern yet rustic accommodations ranks 16th best in the world according to William Reed. Guests can look forward to award-winning cuisine, outdoor, and even golfing!
But what makes the property truly shine is its spa, one of the only ones in the world to be entirely built around a cenote, or freshwater sinkhole, where guests can indulge in Mayan-inspired wellness treatments.
Maroma Riviera Maya – A Strong Contender For The Top Hotel
Ranked the 18th best hotel worldwide in this year’s edition, Maroma Riviera Maya is a testament to Belmond’s high-end luxury experiences.
The resort, which underwent a massive renovation last year, recently re-opened its doors to the public, showcasing a new and improved design that enhances an already excellent experience.
Featuring 72 rooms – including villas and oceanfront suites – Maroma welcomes guests with a neutral and inviting color palette that sets the mood for a relaxing getaway. Outdoor pools and the ocean provide a refreshing contrast to the stylish interior decor, making for beautiful stay.
Guests can look forward to two stunning restaurants, including Casa Mayor, which features the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Daniel Camacho and his innovative take on Mexican classics.
Esencia Tulum – Quaint Luxury Retreat In Total Privacy
For those seeking an exclusive stay far from the hustle and bustle of Tulum’s all-inclusive resorts, Esencia Tulum, with its 51 luxurious suites, delivers a tropical retreat.
Coming in at number 48 on the world’s top properties, this upscale boutique hotel infuses privacy with a touch of Mayan magic.
Situated on a private 51-acre property, the beachfront property offers a unique glimpse into Tulum’s rich biodiversity.
Each year, guests can witness the hatching of turtle eggs, an otherwise highly restricted process. Aside from its stunning natural surroundings, the top-rated property offers three private pools and a rooftop bar for 360 degree views.
Despite its small size, the hotel has five dining locations, each offering a take on local cuisine and Mediterranean flavors.
