30,000 Spring Breakers in Cancun? Plan Your Escape From The Crowds Here

In Cancun, there are two busy seasons that run right into each other.

The first is winter, which is busiest around the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The second is spring break, which is just around the corner and typically runs from about mid-March through the beginning of April.

Cancun’s Spring Break Season

With this next busy season about to get underway, 30,000 springbreakers are expected to visit Cancun.

There are ways to escape the crowds, though.

Read on to find out what Cancun is like during spring break and how to avoid the crowds.

What To Expect When Visiting Cancun During Spring Break

Spring break in Cancun won’t be quite as busy this year as it once was, according to the president of the Hotel Association of Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, Jesus Almaguer Salazar.

That being said, the number of spring breakers that the destination is expecting is nothing to shake a stick at.

By the end of February 35,000 students are expected to visit, and it’s not even the busiest part of spring break season.

Avoid The Resorts Popular Among Spring Breakers

Certain hotels and resorts, especially the lower to mid-range priced all-inclusives, are particularly popular among spring breakers.

These properties are generally in the area of the Hotel Zone, more known for the partying crowd.

Some of the hotels and resorts that have been known to be popular among spring breakers are:

  • Hotel RIU Cancun

Opt For A Higher End Hotel Or Resort

Spring breakers are typically either on a budget or having their trip paid for by their parents, so you’ll find a limited number at the higher-end hotels and resorts.

Choosing one of these might cost you more, but it will help you avoid the big crowds.

Some of the hotels that fall into this category are:

  • Live Aqua Beach Resort Cancun
  • Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Cancun
  • Hyatt Ziva Cancun

Stay In One Of The Quieter Areas Around Cancun

There are also some more exclusive, quieter areas very close to Cancun’s Hotel Zone but far enough away to avoid the crowds.

Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres, in particular, are the perfect destinations for a more relaxing vacation.

Both are located north of the Hotel Zone and have plenty of great luxury all-inclusives, including one, Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, that just opened.

Choose An Adult-Only All-Inclusive

Many adult-only all-inclusives are not as crowded with spring breakers because of the age limitations, so they’re an option for escaping the crowds too.

Cancun is full of all-inclusives, and many of them are, in fact, adult-only properties.

Some of the most highly rated adult-only all-inclusives that can be booked on Booking.com, with nightly rates for weekend dates in March, include:

  • Hyatt Zilara Cancun – $819
  • Hyatt Vivid Grand Island Cancun – $573
  • Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort – $877
  • Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres – $2,750

Wait Until Towards The End Of Spring Break To Vacation In Cancun

The busiest part of spring break is typically during March, so if you visit at the end of February or after the first week of April, you’ll find fewer crowds.

Alternatively, you can visit in late spring, early summer, or early fall for a quieter vacation as well.

If you’re set on a spring break Cancun vacation, though, you can follow any of these tips to avoid the crowds even during the busy spring break season.
