4 New Resorts Coming To Cancun And The Riviera Maya

Last Updated

More luxury resorts are coming soon to Cancun and the Riviera Maya, confirmed hospitality company Tafer this week. The project, which is expected to cost the company $240 million, will double the number of its hotel rooms in Mexico to over 8,000.

This investment comes at the perfect time. In spring 2021, Cancun International was the busiest Mexican airport, with an influx of American tourists keen to enjoy the famous beaches, weather, and hospitality of the region. And last week it was reported that demand is exceeding supply in the most popular Mexican Caribbean tourist destinations, despite being in the midst of a world pandemic.

Tafer is one of the leading luxury resort developers in Mexico, with an impressive portfolio of properties in the Mexican Caribbean in Cancun, and on the Pacific coast in Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos. Development of the additional hotels will create 6,000 jobs, which, for a country that relies on income from the tourism economy, is great news.

Read on to learn more about the plans for the new luxury resorts, as well as the expansion of a popular Cancun resort, which is taking place this year and over the next 5 years.

The new hotels to be developed in Cancun are listed below, along with a taster of what to expect, based on their counterpart hotels in Puerto Vallarta.

5 Local Drinks To Try On Your Next Cancun Vacation

● Hotel Mousai Cancun

Hotel Mousai brand describes itself as ‘a new generation of designer hotels’ that offer ‘fresh flirtatious aesthetics and cutting-edge comfort’.

● Lemuria Hotel and Residences Cancun

Lemuria Residences visitors can expect ‘a unique combination of exclusivity and modern luxury providing the exceptional lifestyle experience’ with ‘contemporary, minimalist design and light, organic colors that bring warmth to all spaces.’

New Riviera Maya Resorts

The new hotels to be developed in the Riviera Maya are:

● Garza Blanca Resort and Spa Riviera Maya

Similar to the Cancun Garza Blanca resort, visitors to the Garza Blanca Riviera Maya can expect ‘stylish decor, private terraces and those elegant details for which the Garza Blanca brand is famed’. And like its sister hotels, gourmet dining will also be a strong selling point, as well as the penthouses and master residences which will offer the ultimate in elegance and luxury. The hotel will be developed in a stunning beachfront location close to Playa del Carmen.

● Hotel Mousai Riviera Maya

Like the Hotel Mousai being developed in Cancun, the Hotel Mousai Riviera Maya will offer an adults-only sanctuary, inspired by Greek mythology and art, that will also provide its guests with an upscale gastronomic experience.

Expansion Of Cancun’s Most Popular Resort

The Garza Blanc Resort and Spa in Cancun is currently the most popular hotel in the city, ranked #1 out of 260 hotels in Cancun on TripAdvisor. It’s also famously Floyd Mayweather’s favorite hotel in Cancun. This is despite only having its soft launch in December 2020, with the official opening taking place in Fall 2021.

Currently, the Garza Blanca has finished the second phase of its 4-phase strategy and has a total of 162 suites available to guests. And after completing phase 4 in Fall 2021, there will be 451 resort suites in total. Given the buzz over this top-rated resort, it’s likely that once complete, the hotel will be booked out by visitors keen to experience the finished resort in all its glory.

Described by Forbes as ‘the All-Inclusive for foodies’, Garza Blanca is working on creating an appealing food scene in-resort, that once complete will offer four restaurants, as well as a gourmet food hall.

The finished resort will also house six outdoor pools, including an ever-popular rooftop infinity pool with ocean views, as well as a spa and gym.
