5 Reasons Why Cancun High Season Will Come Early This Year

Last Updated

With its excellent year-round weather, stunning coastlines, and countless tourist attractions, Cancun offers the ultimate getaway experience regardless of when you’re visiting.

The high season for Cancun travel traditionally falls between December and April – but this year, it might come sooner, as evidenced by the rising number of operations at Cancun International Airport.

After a few weeks of relatively calm operations, Cancun Airport has witnessed a significant surge in passenger numbers, marking a substantial recovery in air traffic after weeks of decline.

Last Saturday, Cancun Airport recorded a total of 523 operations – one of the highest figures in the past two months – signaling a clear resurgence in tourism in the region.

And as Cancun continues to shatter visitor number records, let’s explore why the high season is coming early to Cancun this year.

Near-Perfect Weather

While you can enjoy Cancun’s pristine beaches all year round, right now it’s the perfect time to relish them at their absolute finest.

Not only is the pesky sargasso seaweed mostly gone, but Cancun’s sizzling summer temperatures have given way to more pleasant weather.

This favorable change in climate also makes the experience of exploring the region’s archaeological sites, natural parks, and various attractions much more comfortable.

And as November marks the end of the hurricane season, travelers visiting Cancun right now will be greeted by sunny skies and calm weather conditions.

Unlimited Tourist Attractions

Traveling to Cancun opens the door to a deluge of exciting activities and tourist attractions that promise an unforgettable stay.

Beyond its world-famous coastlines, Cancun is packed with activities such as snorkeling, cenote exploration, day tours, water and theme parks, shopping malls, and archeology tours  – just to name a few.

Not to mention Cancun’s legendary nightlife and fine dining options, which rank high on the list of reasons why travelers keep flocking to this enchanting town.

In addition to the delightful weather, a visit to Cancun right now, just before the peak of the high season, also offers the opportunity to enjoy these activities in a much less crowded environment.

Increased Air Connectivity

Cancun Airport’s recent uptick in visitor numbers is not a mere coincidence.

Last September, Mexico regained its Category 1 aviation security level after two years, which prompted a rapid surge in air connectivity for the country.

Several airlines launched initiatives to expand flight operations, increase seating capacity, and boost flight frequencies, especially with the US.

Now, Cancun Airport offers a much more diverse range of airlines, including major carriers like Aeromexico, Air France, Volaris, and many more – making air connectivity even more convenient for travelers.

Affordable Accommodation Options

There is no shortage of luxury resorts in Cancun, but even travelers on a budget can discover affordable options that don’t compromise on quality.

Budget-friendly resorts such as Maya Caribe Beach House and Aquamarina Beach Hotel offer excellent service and amenities for under $100 USD.

Furthermore, due to the lower occupancy rates experienced during the off-peak season, several Cancun resorts have introduced discounted rates from August through November.

According to Jesús Almaguer Salazar, President of the Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres Hotel Association, some hotels are reducing their rates by up to 15% during this period.

These appealing discounts have undoubtedly contributed to the rising number of travelers choosing to explore this Mexican Caribbean gem.

Growing Popularity Of Nearby Destinations

Traditionally, a Cancun getaway mostly meant relaxing at your all-inclusive resort and visiting a few nearby attractions.

But in recent years, several of Cancun’s neighboring destinations have skyrocketed in popularity among travelers.

Charming coastal towns like Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum offer wildly different – yet equally delightful – experiences from Cancun, often with a more laid-back vibe, a cosmopolitan vibe, and a particular beach town atmosphere.

From shopping at luxurious stores at Playa del Carmen to exceptional wellness experiences at Tulum’s world-class spas, a visit to these destinations complements a Cancun trip in the best possible way.

Get signed up for Uber as the taxi rates are OUTRAGEOUS. We were charged $90 for a 14 minute taxi ride. And don't go to Tortuga Cenote. Tourist hell.
