Enjoy The Best Of Quintana Roo Without The Crowds
Cancun is surrounded by natural and cultural wonders. From the ancient mystique of Chichen Itza to the pristine beaches that adorn the coast, the region is boundless in unique experiences. But few wonders are as distinctive as the cenotes that dot the landscape.
Cenotes draw thousands of visitors every year. Their intrigue, stunning appearance, and even their sacred ties to the ancient Mayan civilization make them far more than just a pretty natural swimming pool.
But attractions as wonderful as cenotes draw crowds. And nothing stunts excitement more than a half-hour wait to jump into the water or fighting to get out. The quiet wonder of these places is often ruined by the presence of tens if not hundreds of tourists.
But an Airbnb near Cancun has the ultimate answer to this problem; a private cenote.
Nuuku, the company behind the stunning property, has six villas available, each hosting a maximum of two guests. The unique property is a relatively new addition to the short-term rental platform but is already commanding some outstanding reviews.
Located about twenty minutes drive from Puerto Morelos or around 35 minutes by car from Cancun, Nuuku’s villas are nestled deep in the jungle of the Mexican Caribbean. Puerto Morelos is located along the Ruta de Cenotes, a particularly cenote-dense region of the state, where the underwater caverns punctuate the road. Nuuku has gained private access to one of these cenotes for their guests’ use.
The villas themselves are more than worth the $ 225-a-night price tag. Each villa hosts an immaculate King-size bed with premium linens and bedding to ensure maximum comfort. Expect a wonderful bathroom with waterfall-style shower heads, a fifty-inch smart tv, and space to get some work done as well.
But the wonder of the stay comes in the form of the location. Each villa has its own private porch area equipped with either a hot tub or a plunge pool to refresh when things get a little hot. All of the villas are surrounded by the jungle, creating an ethereal backdrop for any stay, and giving the impression of a total escape from civilization.
If its location needed any further explanation, there is even a warning on the listing that during the wet season, the animals in the rainforest can be loud enough to annoy some of the guests – you can’t fake that.
On top of the individual touches, each villa has access to the wonderful swimming pool and a guarantee of a choice of sunbeds. Hammocks, outdoor gathering areas, and a firepit round off the relaxing atmosphere outside.
Guests can opt to have a private chef cook for them during their stay, and if the pictures of the food are anything to go by, it’s worth it. The only downside to the stay is that the chef is not included in the price, and with no kitchen, guests are forced to either drive elsewhere for dinner or pay for the chef anyway.
But of course, the gem of the stay is the private cenote. With only a maximum of twelve guests at any one time, anyone staying in the villas can enjoy the unbelievable atmosphere of a natural wonder.
The steep-walled cenote is a sight to behold. The turquoise water would be enough, with sun loungers dotted around its edge and a platform built above its funneled entrance, guests are treated to something truly spectacular at Nuuku.
The entire place has been constructed with the jungle in mind. Each villa is hidden amongst the trees, giving the feeling of complete isolation, even if five-star amenities are only a few steps away. A look through its Instagram page shows the efforts that go into many guests’ stay, from spectacular cenote-side proposals to Mexican traditional music serenading visitors.
Villas can be booked individually for around $225 a night at the moment. It’s also possible to book out the entire site with six villas, so if you have a group of friends looking for a special getaway, it could be the perfect spot.
