Headlines will tell you the beach is buried; Instagram influencers will show you pristine white sand. Who do you trust?

There is one thing that can’t lie, can’t exaggerate, and can’t make up data: Live webcam feeds.

Whenever I am planning a trip to the Mexican Caribbean, I check these specific webcam feeds that run 24 hours a day to give me a general sense of the situation. Sure, conditions can change overnight, but a live feed tells me if the “horror stories” are actually true, or if some journalists were just looking for clicks.

Here at The Cancun Sun, we believe in 100% transparent, on-the-ground reporting. We know we can’t sit on every single beach 24 hours a day to watch the seaweed roll in—but fortunately for us, these webcams can.

How To Use These Feeds Strategically

These feeds are live on YouTube 24 hours a day. We have isolated 10 live feeds from key points along the Hotel Zone and surrounding areas.

Cancun Beach Webcams

1. Breathless Cancun Soul Resort & Spa

Find The Perfect Cancun Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located at the northern curve of the Hotel Zone (around Km 4.5), this camera overlooks the calmer intersection where the Caribbean Sea meets the Bahía de Mujeres. Because this coastline faces north rather than east, it is often naturally shielded from direct sargassum currents, meaning the water here is frequently clearer than the rest of the strip.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Riu Palace Peninsula
  • Riu Caribe
  • The Royal Cancun
  • Temptation Cancun Resort
  • Occidental Costa Cancún

2. Park Royal Beach Hotel (Central Hotel Zone)

Find The Perfect Cancun Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Situated right in the heartbeat of the Hotel Zone (near Km 12.5), this camera faces the open Caribbean Sea. This is the stretch of beach directly across from La Isla Shopping Village. Because this area faces due east, it takes the direct hit from ocean swells, making this the best feed to check for wave height and “Red Flag” warning conditions, as well as sargassum arrivals in the middle of the zone.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

Canopy by Hilton (La Isla)

The Westin Lagunamar

Wyndham Alltra Cancun

Hyatt Zilara Cancun

Live Aqua Beach Resort

3. Hotel Presidente Beach (Playas)

Find The Perfect Cancun Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located at Km 7.5, this camera sits right at the strategic “elbow” of the Hotel Zone (Punta Cancun). Because this beach faces north-northeast and is protected by Isla Mujeres, the water here is famously calm—often resembling a giant swimming pool with almost no waves. This is the best feed to watch if you are traveling with small children and want to see if the water is gentle enough for swimming, or if sargassum has drifted around the corner.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach
  • Riu Palace Las Americas
  • Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa
  • Hyatt Ziva Cancun (North Tower side)
  • Aloft Cancun (Public beach access point)

4. Grand Park Royal Cancun

Find The Perfect Cancun Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located at Km 10.5, this camera monitors one of the widest and most popular stretches of sand in the Hotel Zone, near Chac Mool Beach. This area is known as the “Luxury Strip” because it neighbors some of Cancun’s most expensive properties. This feed faces the open Caribbean, making it the perfect barometer for the “Turquoise vs. Teal” water color check. If the water looks rough here, it is likely rough for the entire middle zone.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Le Blanc Spa Resort
  • Royalton CHIC Cancun
  • Hyatt Zilara (North side)
  • Beach Palace
  • Sunset Royal Beach Resort

5. Live Aqua Cancún

Find The Perfect Cancun Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located at Km 12.5, directly across the street from the La Isla Shopping Village, this camera monitors the very heart of the Hotel Zone. This feed is widely considered the “Gold Standard” for checking water clarity because it uses a high-definition lens that accurately captures the famous turquoise gradients of the Caribbean. If you want to know if the water is sparkling blue or cloudy today, this is the feed to check. Note that because it faces open ocean, the waves here are often strong.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort
  • Wyndham Alltra Cancun
  • Hyatt Zilara Cancun
  • Canopy by Hilton (La Isla)
  • Marriott Cancun (nearby reference)

Playa Del Carmen Beach Webcams

6. Playacar Palace® All Inclusive Resort (Playa del Carmen & Ferry Pier)

Find The Perfect Playa Del Carmen Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located right at the strategic border where downtown Playa del Carmen meets the exclusive gated community of Playacar. This camera sits directly next to the Cozumel Ferry Pier. This is the essential feed for anyone staying in the Riviera Maya rather than Cancun proper. It is perfect for checking if sargassum is hitting Playa (which often happens on different days than Cancun due to the currents blocked by Cozumel) and for checking wave conditions if you plan to take the ferry across to the island.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen
  • Hilton Playa del Carmen
  • The Riu Playacar Complex (Riu Palace Riviera Maya, Riu Yucatan, Riu Tequila)
  • Sandos Playacar
  • Iberostar Tucan / Quetzal

7. The Royal Haciendas All Suites Resort & Spa

Find The Perfect Playa Del Carmen Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located about 10 minutes north of downtown Playa del Carmen, this camera covers the “Grand Coral” and Punta Beté area. This is a vital feed because sargassum often hits this northern coastline differently than the town center or Playacar. If you are staying in the large mega-resorts north of Playa but south of Puerto Morelos, this is your most accurate reference point for beach width and water clarity.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Grand Riviera Princess / Grand Sunset Princess
  • Platinum Yucatan Princess
  • Paradisus La Perla / Paradisus Playa del Carmen
  • Sandos Caracol Eco Resort
  • Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Tulum Beach Webcams

8. Casa Malca (Tulum Hotel Zone)

Find The Perfect Tulum Resort To Match Your Budget & Vibe

Located at the far southern end of the Tulum Hotel Zone, near the Sian Ka’an Biosphere reserve. Since Tulum’s coastline is one long, exposed stretch facing the open ocean, this single camera is usually enough to tell you the status of the entire town. If the water looks rough or brown here, it is likely the same situation all the way up to the Ruins. Use this feed to check the “Boho” strip conditions.

Use this camera feed if you are staying at:

  • Be Tulum
  • Nomade Tulum
  • Azulik
  • Papaya Playa Project
  • La Valise Tulum
  • Selina Tulum

The Bottom Line: Don’t Let Sargassum Rumors Ruin Your Trip

The reality of the Mexican Caribbean is that sargassum is unpredictable. It can be a disaster on Monday and pristine on Tuesday. That is why viral TikToks and week-old news headlines are often useless—they simply can’t keep up with the changing tides.

The only way to know the truth is to see it with your own eyes.
