What To Look For When Choosing A Cancun All-Inclusive Hotel

Last Updated

Cancun is blessed with stunning beaches, turquoise ocean, and hot, sunny days. It’s also full to the brim with All-Inclusive resorts. Huge or petite, expensive or a steal, there‘s something here to suit all tastes and pockets.

Taking an All-Inclusive break is great – you don’t have to worry about planning, and on arrival, you can pretty much wave goodbye to stress. What can cause a headache is deciding which resort you’ll enjoy the most.

Consider the following and your choice of dream Cancun All-Inclusive resort should become clear.

Location: Which Part Of Cancun Do You Want To Stay In?

Location is one of the most important factors to consider when looking for a Cancun All-Inclusive. The majority of Cancun’s resorts are located in the city’s Hotel Zone, and this is where most tourists will head on arrival. The Hotel Zone is flanked on one side by the Caribbean ocean, and the other by the Nichupte Lagoon.

The majority of entertainment and nightlife options are located in Punta Cancun, in the northeastern corner. So if you plan on spending your nights partying, consider staying in the northern section of the Hotel Zone where you can walk to this district.

The further south you go, the further from the entertainment you’ll be, but this can be nice if you’re looking for a more peaceful vacation. And with cabs and buses so easy to find, you’ll have no trouble getting around if and when you want to explore.

Facilities: Decide What’s Most Important To You

For some people, a spa is essential. For others, a great entertainment schedule is paramount. Maybe an airport transfer service is a non-negotiable. Knowing what you want is essential when choosing your resort, so consider exactly what has made your previous vacations work, or not, and base your search on that.

It can be useful to ask yourself the questions below, which will help you pinpoint your dream resort:

● Do you want to stay in a family-friendly or adults-only resort?

These two kinds of resorts can have vastly different vibes, so decide whether this is important to you and choose accordingly. You’ll have great options whichever way you go.

● Do you have a maximum per-night budget?

If so, set this filter on your search, so you don’t fall in love with a property outside your price limit. Sometimes, if you want to stay in a super-expensive resort, choosing the cheapest class of room (usually economy or standard) means you can enjoy all the facilities of the resort without the sky-high room cost.

● Are you willing to pay for fancy alcoholic drinks, or do you want these included in your rate?

Check the small print, as resorts offer different drinks packages. Worth noting is that packages often only include domestic, or ‘bottom-shelf’ liquor. You may need to change your rate if you plan on drinking premium alcohol.
● Will you want to take tours while on vacation?

If so, check that your resort offers an activity booking service. This makes life much easier, as your tour will likely do a resort pick-up and drop-off service, saving you time and effort.
● What type of foods do you like to eat?

Most resorts will have a variety of restaurants on-site serving Italian, Asian, traditional Mexican dishes, and more. But if there’s a particular food you like or dislike, this can help you make a call between equally nice resorts.
● Is swimming in the ocean important?

There are sections of beach in the Hotel Zone that are particularly good for swimming, as the water is calmer. Do your research if this is an important consideration for you.
● Is a swim-up bar a must-have?

If so, check that this facility is available in your resort before booking.

Additional Covid All-Inclusive Hotel Considerations
Each state in Mexico is following a traffic-light system of restrictions due to Covid. Cancun, and the whole of Quintana Roo state, is currently designated as ‘orange’, meaning hotels must follow all guidelines relating to the orange restriction level.

Despite the current situation, tourism is still booming in Cancun. But there are some extra questions you may want to consider, which are specific to the pandemic.

● What Covid protocols have hotels put in place to protect visitors?
Resorts are keen to advertise their efforts to keep guests safe, so check their website or social media to see what you can expect.

● Is on-site Covid testing available?
This will make it much quicker and easier if you need to take a test before returning home.

● Are there changes to hotel service policies due to Covid?

Check the following questions with resorts before booking to help you find your best fit. Knowing this information in advance will also make getting into vacation mode that much easier when you arrive:
1. Is housekeeping still an everyday service?
2. Are there changes to the service of food in the resort’s restaurants?
3. Where in the hotel and grounds are guests required to wear masks?
4. Are there capacity limits in place in the hotel’s facilities?
