Tulum is quickly becoming one of the trendiest destinations in the Mexican Caribbean thanks to its historical and cultural heritage. And travelers will soon be able to enjoy a brand-new attraction: the Jaguar National Park.
Work on the massive protected area is advancing at a rapid pace, and the eco-historical attraction will open to visitors together with the Maya Train in December.
As Tulum’s visitor numbers reach new records in 2023, officials are launching several new exciting attractions for travelers, which highlight the destination’s unique history, culture, and nature.
With just several months to go before the official launching of the Maya Train, here’s the latest on Tulum’s Jaguar National Park.
New Protected Area To Showcase Tulum’s Stunning Beauty
The Maya Train is the largest and most significant infrastructure undertaking in Mexican history and is set to change the way travelers experience and get around the Mexican Caribbean.
The new railway project will allow travelers to reach hotspots across the Mexican Caribbean faster than ever before. Tulum, the leading destination in Quintana Roo for historical and cultural tourism, is set to benefit massively from the Maya Train.

Home to the most popular archeological site in the state, Tulum is gearing up for its busiest winter season on record, with the upcoming Maya Train and Felipe Carillo International Airport expected to bring even more travelers to the coastal destination.
This week, officials gave more details about the new Jaguar National Park, a massive protected area that encompasses Tulum’s Archeological Zone, white-sand beaches, and lush rainforests. The new park is nearly 3000 hectares in size and will house several new attractions, including museums, observation towers, and shops.

According to Román Falcón, the head of Quintana Roo’s Secretary for Rural and Urban Development, significant progress is being made in the construction of new entry points as well as logistical arrangements to accommodate larger visitor numbers.
Mr. Falcón also added that a new 19-meter-tall observation tower in the southern part of the new national park is being built. The symbolic structure will offer beautiful views of Tulum’s Archeological Zone, the Caribbean Sea, as well as the area’s verdant nature.
Travelers will be able to reach Jaguar National Park directly from Tulum’s Maya Train station as well as from the national highway, providing plenty of convenient options for short visits to one of the region’s most versatile destinations.

Officials are carrying out regular inspections to ensure the timely completion of new construction projects. Among other things, a new Mayan museum is being built in the protected area, which is also expected to open late this year or early 2024.
Here’s The Latest On The Maya Train
Costing over $15 billion, the Maya Train is the largest tourism infrastructure project to date in Mexico. Officials recently confirmed that the new project will officially open on December 15th on the Chiapas to Cancun route.

The Mexican Caribbean currently lacks affordable public transportation options, with most travelers relying on expensive taxis or private transfers. With the Maya Train, visitors will be able to reach over 20 locations across 5 different states in just several hours.
Although no official prices have been released, tickets are expected to cost around $50 per user, with slightly cheaper rates for locals and for shorter journeys.
