Tulum is set to inaugurate the much-awaited Jaguar National Park next month as the city gears up for the completion of the southern section of the Maya Train route.
The new national park honors Tulum’s rich natural and historical beauty and will offer travelers the chance to explore the city’s vast cultural heritage up close.
Spanning over 2000 hectares in size, Quintana Roo’s second-largest protected area will encompass everything from white-sand beaches to ancient Mayan temples, promising travelers an unforgettable experience.
With visitors already setting their sights on the new attraction, here’s the latest on Tulum’s new Jaguar National Park.
Jaguar National Park To Launch Soon In Tandem With Maya Train Route
This week, Tulum officials released an important update on the city’s soon-to-be natural & historical attraction, the massive 2,000-acre Jaguar National Park.
According to government officials, construction of the new national protected area is nearing completion, with workers finalizing visitor facilities, including a towering observation deck.
While much of the new protected area already exists in the form of remote beaches, lush rainforests, and numerous Mayan ruins, the land designated for the National Park has largely been off-limits to visitors.
That’s set to change this September as Tulum launches the new attraction in conjunction with the Fifth Section of the Maya Train route, connecting Cancun and Playa del Carmen with the southern city.
With visitor numbers set to skyrocket, Mexican officials have prioritized preserving Tulum’s diverse historical, cultural, and ecological heritage.
Enter Jaguar National Park, one of the most significant eco-cultural conservation projects to date in the Mexican Caribbean.
Consisting of a huge swath of land around Tulum’s Mayan Train station, Jaguar National Park is both an important conservation effort as well as an attraction for millions of travelers.
Aimed at raising awareness of the region’s delicate nature & Mayan history, the $140 million project is a major milestone for the area.
Jaguar National Park To Delight Travelers With These Attractions
Jaguar National Park boasts numerous attractions and points of interest for travelers.
Over two kilometres of walkable paths allow visitors to easily explore beaches, rainforests, and Mayan temples, with several lookout towers providing gorgeous panoramic views of the Mexican Caribbean coastline.
The protected area will also feature a Mayan museum with a focus on local gastronomy & history.
The park will be connected via walkways to the Maya Train station as well as the national highway network, providing easy access to the new attraction as well as a handful of white-sand beaches.
While parts of the park will be free for visitors, certain attractions like the museum or lookout towers may have an entrance fee, although officials have yet to release rates for the new park.
Together with the nearby Ichkabal archeological site, Jaguar National Park is part of a wider effort to make southern Quintana Roo attractions accessible for travelers.
Tulum is set to become one of the most visited cities in the Mexican Caribbean state thanks to the new Maya Train as well as the city’s recently launched Felipe Carrillo International Airport, which operates a growing number of non-stop flights to the U.S.
Travelers can already ride the Maya Train. The 1,500-kilometre-long railway system has already transported hundreds of thousands of travelers, and more are set to use it as the undertaking expands south to Tulum.
