7 Tips To Choose The Perfect Cancun Getaway As It Adds More Hotels Than Rest Of Country

Last Updated

Cancun has A LOT of hotels, boasting more than 130,000 total rooms that are available for tourists visiting the destination.

Just this year alone Cancun has added 4,000 more rooms to the overall total and more hotels than anywhere else in Mexico.

This can make choosing a hotel somewhat difficult.

It’s the age-old problem of having TOO MANY choices, so here are seven tips to help you choose the perfect Cancun getaway now that it has added more hotels this year than the rest of the country.

1.  Make A List Of Must-Haves

You can’t know what you’re looking for if you don’t know exactly what you want from your hotel for your Cancun vacation.

Regardless of which property you choose, you’ll be spending days there, so you want to be happy with your choice.

Do you have to have multiple pools? Do you want a hotel with a jacuzzi? Would you prefer an adult-only resort?  Do you want several different dining options?

These are all things to consider when making a list of must-haves.

2.  Know The Different Areas Of Cancun

Location is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a hotel in any destination, and Cancun has several different areas with hotels.

The most popular area is the Cancun Hotel Zone, but there are some downtown hotels worth checking out too.

There are also more secluded areas nearby, like Costa Mujeres.

Consider the kind of vacation you’re hoping to have, and it will help you choose the area you want to be in.

3.  Consider The Benefits Of An All-Inclusive

One of the decisions you’ll have to make is between a traditional hotel or an all-inclusive.

If you look at the benefits of staying in an all-inclusive, you may realize that it makes sense.

All-inclusives make for easier planning, easier budgeting, and less of a need to leave the property.

These things may or may not be important to you.

4.  Pay Attention To The Amenities

Most people only get one or two vacations every year, so they should be as enjoyable as possible, and this is where amenities come into play.

Not all hotels and resorts are the same, some offering more unique amenities than others.

You want to choose a hotel with amenities based on how you plan to spend your vacation.

If it’s by the pool all week, then choose the hotel with the best pools, if it’s eating well, make sure the hotel has great restaurants, etc…

5.  Read The Fine Print

Sometimes deals seem too good to be true because they are, and this is often the case with vacations, so it’s important to read the fine print, all of it.

In the case of hotels, this can happen with all-inclusives.

It’s not unheard of for all-inclusive resorts to charge extra for the better restaurants, certain activities, and various other amenities.

While not all of them do this, some do, so read carefully and thoroughly.

6.  Look At Lots Of Reviews

Reviews from other guests should not be the only factor considered when choosing a hotel, but they are one indicator of how good the hotel is.

Be sure to read lots of them, good and bad, to get the full picture.

Then, weigh that with all of the other factors you’ve considered.

7.  Compare Prices On Different Platforms

Often, you’ll get the best hotel price by booking directly, but it doesn’t hurt to look around.

Sometimes hotels give a certain amount of inventory to Online Travel Agency websites like Booking.com to sell too, and they might offer deals that the hotel doesn’t.

You can’t find a deal without looking for it and it will only take a few minutes of your time, and everybody loves a good deal.
