There are many popular destinations surrounding Cancun, which is itself the most popular destination in the region.
One of those destinations, not far at all from Cancun, is Costa Mujeres, and this new hotspot seems to keep skyrocketing in popularity.
There is one main reason, and a few other reasons, why more and more travelers are visiting this destination near Cancun.
More Hotels = More Visitors
Costa Mujeres may not have been around that long but the destination is growing quickly, particularly when it comes to luxury hotel properties.
There are currently just over 8,500 rooms available in Costa Mujeres, and by this winter around 1,200 more will be added, totaling more than 10,000 by the end of the year.
Furthermore, according to information from the Tourist Office, the number of hotels in Costa Mujeres will increase by nearly 22 percent in the next two years.
The Costa Mujeres Difference Compared To Cancun
With so many new hotels, it’s no wonder travelers are flocking to Costa Mujeres to see what all of the excitement is about, but it isn’t just hotels that are drawing in visitors.
One of the reasons travelers love the destination so much is that it’s a quieter alternative to Cancun, but close enough to enjoy all that Cancun has to offer.
It offers a bit more seclusion without lacking in amenities.
Beaches, Ruins, And More…
For those who want to vacation in Costa Mujeres and not travel far from the resort, there’s no need to, because the destination has everything you need.
It has one of the most secluded beaches in the region, Isla Blanca.
It has ruins nearby, the El Meco archeological site, and there’s a golf course just steps away.
Hotels In Costa Mujeres
Costa Mujeres has several high-end luxury resorts, and there are even more just steps away in Playa Mujeres.
All of them are oceanfront properties with their own beaches and Caribbean Sea views.
Some of the hotels you’ll find in Costa Mujeres, and their approximate starting nightly rates are:
- Hotel Riu Dunamar – $200
- Secrets Playa Blanca – $670
- Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa – $490
- Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres – $500
- Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres – $284
The Future Of Costa Mujeres
Not only is Costa Mujeres growing in regards to the number of hotels available in the destination, but the destination itself is being developed.
It was recently announced that a new “tourist corridor” similar to the Hotel Zone in Cancun is being built in the area.
It will be a 15-mile corridor that will begin just outside of the Cancun Hotel Zone and extend to Costa Mujeres.
Once completed, it will pave the way for even more hotels to be built and will be lined with bike paths and sidewalks.
The Nearby Island Of Isla Mujeres
Not only is there plenty to do in Costa Mujeres but just across the water is Isla Mujeres’s tropical island paradise.
It’s just a quick ferry ride away and has even more to offer, like an underwater museum, a charming village, and one of the best beaches in the area, Playa Norte.
The ferry ride only takes about 20-30 minutes and costs around $15.
Costa Mujeres’ Location
Costa Mujeres is just around 30 minutes from Cancun Airport and less than 25 minutes from the Hotel Zone.
Taxis, the ADO bus, shuttles, and private transportation are available to get from the airport to Costa Mujeres.
The short distance from the airport makes it the perfect Cancun alternative if you’re looking for something a little bit different.
