There are a lot of places to visit in the Mexican Caribbean for stunning beaches, unique activities, and luxury all-inclusive resorts, but there are a few reasons why, according to the latest tourism stats, many are choosing Costa Mujeres.
This area near Cancun has been developing over the last decade, but most of the growth of Costa Mujeres has occurred in just the last few years.
In addition to being a fairly new destination, there are five other reasons why this stunning destination north of Cancun is the region’s new vacation hotspot.
World-Class Luxury All-Inclusives
One of the things that Costa Mujeres has that most of the other Mexican Caribbean destinations have is world-class luxury all-inclusives.
The difference is that the ones in Costa Mujeres are all pretty new.
Most were constructed from 2017 and beyond.
A few more are also set to open over the next couple of years, including The St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort, which is slated for a December 2025 opening.
Peaceful Beaches
One of the best things about Costa Mujeres is the beaches.
Not just because of the soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water, although that’s amazing too, but also because they’re much more peaceful.
They’re far more peaceful than the beaches you’ll find in the busier Mexican Caribbean destinations because there are fewer crowds.
Laid-Back Atmosphere
Aligning with the fewer crowds factor, it’s no surprise then that Costa Mujeres has a more laid-back atmosphere as well.
There isn’t the vibrant nightlife scene you’ll find in places like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum.
If that’s what you’re looking for then you might want to stay in one of those destinations, but if you’re looking for a more relaxing vacation, Costa Mujeres is perfect.
Nearby Attractions And Activities
The central location of Costa Mujeres makes it easy to enjoy nearby attractions, but it also has some of its very own attractions too.
The area has a world-class golf course and several luxurious spas.
Additionally, the El Meco ruins just recently reopened after some updates, including a new walkway that leads to the beach.
The site is just steps away from the resorts in Costa Mujeres.
You can also take a ferry or boat tour to Isla Mujeres, which is a stunning island that sits directly across from Costa Mujeres.
Close Proximity To Cancun
Another great thing about Costa Mujeres is that you can have more peaceful beaches and a more laid-back vibe, but you’re still just minutes from all that Cancun has to offer.
The resorts are only about 20 miles from Cancun Airport, and the Hotel Zone is only about 15 miles away.
This makes it easy to spend a day in Cancun yet return to your more peaceful destination at the end of the day.
Getting To Costa Mujeres
The 20-ish-mile trip from Cancun Airport to your Costa Mujeres resort will take roughly 45 minutes, so you’ll want to choose your transportation wisely.
Taxis can be as expensive as private transportation, upwards of $100, and not nearly as comfortable, typically.
You can book private transportation from the airport in advance, so there’s no waiting around to hail a taxi, and you’ll know exactly what it costs ahead of time.
It also doesn’t hurt to inquire with your hotel to see if they offer included or discounted transfers.
Where To Stay
There are several highly-rated all-inclusive resorts in Costa Mujeres.
Some of the ones that score the highest based on guest reviews on Booking.com are:
- Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres – 8.4
- TRS Coral Hotel – 8.6
- Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres – 9.2
Those are just a few of the Costa Mujeres resorts that can be booked right now.
There are several more, and by the end of next year, there will be a few more options in this quickly growing vacation hotspot near Cancun, too.
