The Mexican Caribbean, which includes the state of Quintana Roo and vacation destinations like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, and Tulum, is home to more than 130,000 hotel rooms.
Luxury all-inclusives, well-known chain hotels, boutique hotels, and more line the region’s aqua blue water and white sand coast, and the region’s development hasn’t stopped yet.
Five new luxury hotels and resorts are coming to the Mexican Caribbean just this year alone.
Let’s take a look at what they are and why the Mexican Caribbean is so popular.
Five New Hotels In 2025
The Mexican Caribbean had a busy year welcoming new hotel properties to the region last year.
The SLS Playa Mujeres, Almare Isla Mujeres, AVA Resort Cancun, and Hotel Mousai Cancun are just a few of the new properties that opened in 2024.
This year is set to be another busy year, with five new hotels already open or opening soon, including:
- Melia Casa Maya
- Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres
- Ocean Azure Costa Mujeres
- Hotel Riu Ventura
- Excellence Puerto Morelos

Melia Casa Maya – Already Open
The new Melia Casa Maya All-Inclusive opened on a stunning white sand beach in Cancun last month and is now accepting reservations for 2025.
The modern property features contemporary rooms and suites with sweeping ocean views.
There’s also an outdoor pool, a water park, and four restaurants and bars.
Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres – To Open Soon
The next new hotel to open will be the Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, which is set to open on February 12th and can be booked now.
The luxurious adult-only all-inclusive is located in the exclusive Playa Mujeres area, which is north of the Cancun Hotel Zone.
In addition to spacious modern suites, the new property will feature 6 pools, 8 jacuzzis, and more than 20 food and beverage establishments.
Additionally, the all-inclusive service includes several activities, classes, and water sports.
Ocean Azure Costa Mujeres – Opening Soon
Although an exact opening date has not been announced for the new H10 branded Ocean Azure Costa Mujeres, it is expected to open in the near future.
The new luxury all-inclusive will feature “ocean-inspired” decor, as well as two outdoor pools, a wave pool, a lazy river, and a water park.
The 599-room property will also have a theater, a bowling alley, 8 restaurants, and 10 bars and lounges.
Hotel Riu Ventura – Slated For December 2025 Opening
The Riu hotel chain is no stranger to the Mexican Caribbean, with at least six properties just in Cancun alone.
Now, although very little information about the new hotel is available, another new property is in the works.
The Hotel Riu Ventura will also be located in Cancun and is slated for a December 2025 opening.
Excellence Puerto Morelos – TBD
There has also been talk of a new Excellence Group property being constructed in Puerto Morelos, which is just 40 minutes south of Cancun.
There is even less information on this property, but according to reports, the hotel group has “reported the construction of a hotel development in Puerto Morelos.”
There is no indication as to when this hotel will open, but it’s something to watch out for.
Why Travelers Are Flocking To The Mexican Caribbean Right Now
In addition to the spectacular beaches in the Mexican Caribbean, there is plenty to do throughout the region.
There’s everything from adventure parks to archeological sites and jungles to cenotes to explore when visiting Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, or any of the other amazing destinations that make up the Mexican Caribbean region.
On top of that, the region is considered to be pretty safe.
There’s also no shortage of amazing hotels, and there are about to be a few more.
