When booking a vacation to Cancun, costs can soon mount up and your vacation can end up being pretty expensive. We all want to avoid spending unnecessarily, so here we’ll share six top tips to help you snag a bargain at one of the many budget, mid-range, or luxury resorts in and around Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Sign Up For All-Inclusive Resort Mailing Lists
Every resort in Cancun will have a mailing list. And while these will offer interesting and useful facts about the resort – great for keeping you up to speed – what they can also do is alert you when there are deals to be had.
Once you’ve done your research and have shortlisted a few favorite hotels, make sure you sign up for their mailing list. Who knows how many dollars you could save!
Travel To Cancun In The Off Season
There are certain times of the year when Cancun hotels are pricier than others. Spring break, Easter, and the Christmas and New Year’s holidays are all classed as peak travel times, and prices in the top resorts will reflect this – expect them to be super expensive. However, if you can, consider traveling in the shoulder season, or during the less popular months, and you may well shave a significant amount off room rates in many resorts.
Take Advantage Of Launch Offers At New Cancun Resorts
As you’ll see in previous Cancun Sun articles, there are frequent new arrivals to Cancun’s All-Inclusive resort scene. In the last few months alone, Grupo Xcaret announced a new resort, the new Waldorf Astoria Cancun resort opened its doors, Royal Resorts revealed the new Royal Uno All-Inclusive Resort and Spa, and Secrets announced its new Secrets Moxché Resort.
While many of the newer resorts charge guests a premium, during the launch period, some offer discounts and promotions designed to attract new visitors. Keep your eyes open and you may be able to find a bargain in one of Cancun or the Mexican Riviera’s brand new All-Inclusives.
Ask For A Discount!
You can’t get more old-school than this, but trying this technique could score you a discounted price. If there’s a resort you’re keen to try, why not contact them and ask outright if they can offer a lower price. This can work well if you’re booking last minute, as hotels will want to sell as many rooms as possible, so may offer more flexibility on price. Try your luck – what’s the worst that could happen?
Book room-only for a cheaper rate, if you prefer to eat off-resort
If you’re not dead set on eating all your meals in-resort, booking a room-only rate can be a great way to secure a cheaper deal. Often paying the All-Inclusive rate can take a particular resort out of budget. But opting for room-only means you may be able to afford one of the more fancy and upscale hotels in Cancun’s Hotel Zone. Plus, it means you can sample some of Cancun’s awesome restaurants, which are spread throughout the Hotel Zone as well as downtown.
Use loyalty points

You can earn points by staying in relevant branded hotels, as well as by using affiliated credit cards. As your points grow, you’ll be able to use them for lower-priced rooms, or even for a free stay. You really can’t go wrong!
