The competition among luxury, all-inclusive resorts in Cancun is fiercer than ever. As modern travelers demand more elevated culinary programs, refined wellness spaces, and design that reflects local culture rather than generic luxury, aging properties must make a choice: stagnate, or completely reinvent themselves.
One of the most recognizable adults-only resorts in the Hotel Zone made its decision over a year ago.
Following a comprehensive 13-month closure and a staggering $80 million capital investment, Hyatt Zilara Cancun has officially reopened its doors. Situated right on the iconic barrier strip between the turquoise Caribbean Sea and the Nichupté Lagoon, the reimagined Hyatt Inclusive Collection property has transformed nearly every square inch of its grounds, debuting brand-new suites, an expanded lineup of 14 restaurants and bars, and a deeply authentic Mayan-inspired wellness center.

A Complete Redesign Rooted in Quintana Roo
The massive $80 million renovation wasn’t just a cosmetic refresh or a fresh coat of paint. Construction crews completely stripped and rebuilt the resort’s common spaces, suites, furniture, and infrastructure, employing between 1,500 and 2,000 workers during the peak of the remodel. Today, the complex operates with a robust staff of 570 employees ready to welcome guests back.
The property’s aesthetic has shifted heavily toward a contemporary, organic look inspired directly by the natural richness of Quintana Roo—drawing architectural cues from local mangroves, offshore coral reefs, and coastal flora. Throughout the property, guests will find warm earth tones, handcrafted local details, and rich organic textures that bridge indoor luxury with the surrounding tropical environment.
All 310 guest suites have been completely overhauled with modern interiors and layouts. Thanks to the unique geography of the Hotel Zone strip, suites offer panoramic views of either the Caribbean Sea or the Nichupté Lagoon. For guests staying here, that means waking up to an ocean sunrise on the east terrace and enjoying sunset drinks overlooking the lagoon on the west.

Nightlife, Speakeasies, and 14 Culinary Concepts
Dining programs make or break the all-inclusive experience, and Hyatt Zilara’s new footprint heavily diversifies its food and beverage options. The property now features a dynamic collection of 14 restaurants and bars designed to cater to every mood, from casual beachside bites to formal, multi-course dinners.
The culinary options include:
- Global Specialties: Full-service dining venues ranging from traditional Mexican gastronomy to regional Italian and modern Asian cuisine.
- Interactive Dining: Live cooking demonstrations and teppanyaki-style tables that bring culinary entertainment into the evening.
- The Pool Scene: A reimagined beachfront infinity pool equipped with an expansive swim-up underwater bar, allowing guests to grab cocktails without ever leaving the water.
- The Speakeasy: For late-night socializing, the resort introduced Bokeh, an intimate, speakeasy-style cocktail lounge, anchored by “Highlights,” a distinctive vault space tucked inside the venue for private drinks.

Mayan Cosmovision at the Zen Spa
On the relaxation side, the resort unveiled a massive expansion of its wellness hub: the Zen Spa. Spanning more than 2,000 square meters (over 21,500 square feet), the facility’s design and treatment philosophy are directly inspired by the four cardinal directions of the ancient Mayan cosmovision.
The expansive wellness center houses 11 dedicated private treatment rooms, an open-air relaxation lounge with an outdoor terrace, and a comprehensive hydrotherapy circuit designed to restore physical and mental balance. The menu blends modern therapeutic practices with indigenous botanicals, offering travelers a peaceful sanctuary steps away from the vibrant energy of the Hotel Zone.

Meetings, Weddings, and Prime Location
Beyond leisure travelers, the $80 million overhaul strategically upgrades the resort’s capacity for destination weddings and corporate retreats. The flagship Salón Zilara offers 630 square meters of flexible event space capable of hosting up to 500 guests in a theater setup, complemented by the Salón Laguna, private boardrooms, a sunset-facing Laguna Terrace, an oceanfront gazebo, and dedicated stretches of private beach for barefoot ceremonies.

Its central location in the Cancun Hotel Zone also means guests aren’t trapped in an isolated bubble. Visitors can easily step outside the resort to explore nearby shopping plazas, local restaurants, and the nightlife district before retreating to the quiet luxury of their adults-only enclave.
With its grand reopening officially underway, Hyatt Zilara Cancun reasserts itself as a premier contender in the Mexican Caribbean’s luxury market, delivering a modern, high-end escape tailored directly to adult travelers.
