Cancun’s record-breaking summer season has officially started, with thousands of travelers projected to flock to the coastal hotspots daily.

With that in mind, here’s a look at one of the hottest attractions near Cancun this summer.

Tulum Grows In Popularity Amid Cancun Summer Travel Surge

Cancun is poised to be one of the most popular resort destinations globally for Americans this summer according to new reports.

Numerous resorts in the city are already sold out for the busiest summer periods, and others expect record occupancy rates in the coming months.

While most travelers will be opting to spend most days enjoying Cancun’s all-inclusive amenities, more and more visitors are opting for day trips to discover the Mexican Caribbean’s centuries-old Mayan history & culture.

And with its massive Archaeological Site—home to towering temples, countless artifacts, and stunning ocean views—Tulum is witnessing a surge in guided tour bookings.

That’s according to licensed tour agencies based in the historical hotspot, who predict nearly a 100% occupancy rate for guided tours this summer.

Quintana Roo’s main historical hotspot is already welcoming up to 7,000 daily travelers, with that number forecast to likely rise as the region heads into the record-breaking summer season.

Even though a significant number of travelers flock to Tulum from Cancun via taxi or an excursion, this summer, most visitors will arrive from the new Felipe Carrillo International Airport

The city’s brand new airport is handling upwards of five thousand travelers daily, most of whom are flocking to Tulum thanks to new nonstop flights from the U.S., including from New York.

Skyrocketing arrival figures mean that it’s more important than ever for visitors to book their excursion ahead of time to secure availability for Tulum’s main excursions.

With online scams on the rise, visitors are being told to exercise caution when booking services and experiences online. Local officials recently launched a new campaign called Verify and Travel, urging tourists to stick to official providers when crafting their Mexican Caribbean getaway.

Travelers are advised to use websites like Tripadvisor or Viator and, more specifically, to choose activities with plenty of four- and five-star reviews. Avoid booking tours via unofficial sources, which may lack certification.

Some of the best Tulum tours in 2024 include this top-rated combo tour, showcasing the city’s magnificent ruins and the nearby Sian Ka’an nature reserve. At just $133 per person, it’s a great deal for those seeking to maximize their time in the city.

Another popular choice is this VIP private Tulum tour, allowing visitors to escape the crowds and enjoy everything the historic destination has to offer.

Tulum’s Archeological Site is by far the largest and most popular in the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, which saw over a million visitors last year.

The coastal hotspot has made strides in improving the state of the historic attractions, conducting investments in common facilities and the dozens of trails that populate the area.
