Anyone who has ever been to Cancun knows that the Hotel Zone is the heart of the tourist area.

It’s where the most popular beaches are, it’s filled with restaurants, bars, shopping, attractions, and entertainment, and it’s where all of the best hotels and all-inclusive resorts are.

In the near future, though, there will be a new tourist corridor in Cancun that will bring new resort options for travelers.

Essentially, the new tourist corridor will be a Cancun Hotel Zone 2.0.

From Cancun To Costa Mujeres – The New Tourist Corridor Coming To Cancun

The new tourist corridor that will be developed in Cancun will stretch from Lopez Portillo Avenue, which starts in downtown Cancun, to Costa Mujeres.

Costa Mujeres sits about 12 miles to the north of the Hotel Zone and other main tourist areas in Cancun.

The new corridor will extend approximately 15 miles from just outside of the Hotel Zone at Lopez Portillo and Bonampak Avenues, all the way to Costa Mujeres.

Why Cancun Is Developing Another Hotel Zone

According to one official, Senator Eugenio Segura, the strip of beach along this tourist corridor that’s being developed has already been approved for more hotels.

The approval will allow up to 30,000 more hotel rooms to be constructed, which is quite a few more hotels in that area.

Segura indicated that this area, when completed, “will practically be equivalent to a Cancun Hotel Zone.”

Project Details

There have been no exact dates for when the tourist corridor project will begin or be completed, but basic timeframes have been suggested.

Sources indicate that the project will get underway sometime before the end of the year and will take about two years to complete.

In addition to hotels that will likely be developed later on, the tourist corridor will be lined with sidewalks and bike paths as well.

What The Tourist Corridor Means For Tourists

While no hotels have been announced for this new area yet, it’s very likely that there eventually will be, so tourists will have new resort options in the future.

This is good news for tourists because the main part of Cancun has grown about as big as it can get.

The more secluded area also will give tourists visiting the region a quieter alternative to the more bustling Cancun.

Cancun’s Costa Mujeres Area

Costa Mujeres is an exclusive area and gated resort community with several high-end resorts and a golf course.

It sits directly across from the stunning island of Isla Mujeres, which is just a short ferry ride away from Cancun.

Costa Mujeres is an up-and-coming area that is quickly gaining popularity among travelers.

Costa Mujeres Beaches

Costa Mujeres also has some stunning beaches, with fewer people on them than beaches along the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Isla Blanca, in Costa Mujeres, is one of the most secluded beaches in the Cancun area.

Costa Mujeres beaches are perfect for spending a relaxing day in the sun, away from the crowds typically seen in Cancun.

The Cancun Hotel Zone

Construction of the Cancun Hotel Zone began in the 1970s.

Before that, it was just an island jungle with only a few inhabitants.

The Hotel Zone, which is shaped like the number 7, is lined with endless beaches and sprawling hotels, and now, just a few short decades later, Cancun is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Mexico.

This new tourist corridor is sure to make the destination even more popular.
