Any time of the year is a good time to visit Cancun if you love spending your days on stunning white sand beaches with crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Visiting during the summer, though, gives you the added bonus of warm, balmy days perfect for enjoying the destination’s many beautiful beaches.
This is why it’s no surprise that Cancun has been named one of the top destinations to visit this summer, according to Google.
A Summer Favorite According To Google Flights Searches
The information used to determine that Cancun is one of this summer’s top travel destinations for Americans comes from search data of travelers using Google Flights.
The results reflect data from searches made in the U.S. for the dates between June 1st through August 31st, 2024.
It shows that Cancun was the sixth most searched destination for flights for dates during this time frame.
Why Summer Is A Great Time To Visit Cancun
There are many great reasons to visit Cancun during the summer months.
The weather, despite being the “rainy season,” is beautiful, with average daytime temperatures around 90 degrees, and it doesn’t typically rain all day, but rather just in the afternoons.
Summer is also considered one of Cancun’s slow seasons, so you might find better hotel rates and flight prices.
How Busy Is Cancun During The Summer Months?
Because summer is a slower season for Cancun you’re likely to see fewer crowds too, so if you’re hoping for a more relaxing vacation, summer might be the time to visit.
This is particularly the case for the months of July and August.
During these months, you’ll see more locals than usual, but fewer international tourists than during the winter months and spring break season.
Best Beaches To Visit When Vacationing In Cancun In The Summer
Cancun has many great beaches, several of which are located right in the popular Hotel Zone.
There are also a number of more secluded beaches if that’s what you’re looking for.
Some of the most popular beaches, and why they’re popular, are:
- Playa Delfines – No huge resorts along the beach.
- Playa Mujeres – Lined with adult-only resorts and on the quieter side.
- Playa Tortugas – Often has less sargassum.
- Playa Langosta – Calm, shallow water perfect for swimming with children.
- Playa Gaviota Azul – Best beach for those looking for a party atmosphere.
What About Sargassum?
One of the things that travelers visiting Cancun during the summer season might have to deal with is sargassum.
The smelly brown seaweed typically arrives in the spring and is present through the summer months.
Officials have made it a priority, though, and work hard to keep it off of the beaches.
There are also some nearby beaches that get less sargassum, like Playa Tortugas, as mentioned above, and Playa Norte on the nearby island of Isla Mujeres, which is only a ferry ride away.
Should You Be Worried About Hurricane Season?
Hurricane season does fall into the summer months in Cancun, running from June to November.
During this time hurricanes are possible, but they are very rare in the Mexican Caribbean, and there is more of a chance of one between the months of August and November.
Getting travel insurance can give you peace of mind when booking a Cancun vacation during hurricane season.
