When it comes to destinations around the world that are famed for their diverse resort options, Cancun hardly needs an introduction. From glitzy, high-end resorts and glamorous boutique choices to plenty of backpacker and budget-friendly choices, Cancun’s sheer amount of options means travelers are always able to find a hotel that’s right up their street, regardless of prices or occupancy levels in the city.
With most of the big brand names in the industry already represented in Cancun, a new competitor is set to join the fray later this year, giving travelers even more to choose from.
Avani Hotels & Resorts – a company that has established its name and won awards for its properties that are based largely in Asia – has chosen Cancun to be their first destination in the Latin American market, the latest of several major companies to try and capitalize on the surging levels of popularity that the city is facing.
Here’s everything travelers should know about Avani’s plans for their Cancun hotel, plus a look at what travelers should expect from the brand based on its existing properties around the world.
Avani Heading To Cancun – What Travelers Should Know
While Avani Hotels & Resorts may not be a household name in North America, for travelers heading to Asia, it’s a brand that almost always guarantees a blend of affordable luxury and high customer satisfaction.
Avani currently has 38 properties around the world, spread out around 20 different countries across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa. Thailand is home to more Avani resorts than any other country, boasting 11 hotels that are a mixture of chic city hotels and luxury beachside accommodations.

The brand is looking to expand its operations in the coming years and is seeking to develop in new markets. As well as more planned openings in Asia, Avani is also heading to Europe for the first time, with hotels set to open in Italy, Germany, and Spain in the coming month.
However, there’s one planned addition to its portfolio that is set to be of particular interest to travelers in North America, and that’s its new hotel in Cancun.
Avani has selected Cancun for the location of its first development in North America, with the hotel set to open later this year. According to reports, the new development will have 140 rooms and suites, in addition to typical luxury hotel staples such as bars, restaurants, and a pool complete with a pool bar.
Set to be located both close to the airport and the beaches, and with easy access to the city’s shopping malls, restaurants, bars, entertainment centers, and attractions, it sounds like travelers will have yet another top-quality option when it comes to booking accommodation.
Speaking about the company’s planned expansion into the region, Christian Daghelinckx, the Managing Director of America for NH Hotel Group, which owns Avani, said:
“We are happy to soon have an Avani hotel in our region, and we are proud to be able to announce this first opening in 2023 in Cancun, Mexico. We are sure that this hotel will surprise all travelers seeking the experience that our Avani Hotels & Resorts offer around the world. This opening is part of our strategic expansion plan for the Avani, Tivoli and Anantara brands.”
Avani hotels are renowned for their exciting designs and high-quality service. The brand has previously received awards for their hotel designs, along with awards for their spa services and overall quality compared to competitors.
Avani also has several partnerships with several leading Asian airlines, including Qatar Airways and Emirates, which could see North American airlines benefit from partnerships in the future.
Avani isn’t the only hotel brand to have selected the Mexican Caribbean for expansion. In December, the luxury hotel brand Kempinski opened a resort in the heart of Cancun’s hotel zone, while Marriott’s Aloft brand selected Playa Del Carmen for their latest resort. Joining Avani in opening later this year is AVA Resort Cancun, which will be building a 1,700-room resort.
