There’s a long list of amazing vacation destinations to visit in Mexico, but Cancun takes the crown over all others.
It gets more international visitors than any other place in the country, mostly American tourists, followed by Canadians. In fact, Cancun gets roughly 725 visitors from the United States every hour!
It’s no secret that Cancun has a lot to offer, but it’s the most popular destination in Mexico for seven main reasons.
Tons Of Amazing All-Inclusives
Cancun already has more than 130,000 hotel rooms, and several hotels have already opened or will open this year, many of which are sprawling all-inclusives.
Some of the top all-inclusives in the world are in Cancun, and this is one of the things that makes the destination so popular.
All-inclusives make for easy vacation budgeting because food, drinks, snacks, and even some activities are included in the price of the room, and in Cancun you don’t have to give up luxury to stay at an all-inclusive.
Unbelievable Beaches
The Cancun Hotel Zone is lined with white sand beaches that continue along the coast for as long as the eye can see.
These beaches are known not only for their soft white sand but also for their calm, crystal-clear turquoise waters that are perfect for swimming and water activities.
Whether you want a secluded beach to spend the day on or one full of action and fun, you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect beach in Cancun.
Diverse Offering Of Activities
Cancun has an endless number of things to do, so there is something for every type of traveler.
It might be a beach vacation destination, but there’s more to enjoy than just the beaches.
During your Cancun vacation, you can enjoy water activities, adventure parks, outdoor activities, tours, land activities, and more.
Great Availability Of Flights
Cancun gets more international flights than any other vacation destination in Mexico, especially from the United States.
In total, nonstop flights are available from 123 destinations spanning 27 countries around the world.
Just from the U.S. alone, Americans can travel to Cancun from 41 different airports throughout the country.
Breathtaking Nature
Cancun is undoubtedly known for its beaches, which are the destination’s most popular natural attraction, but the breathtaking nature doesn’t start and stop at the stunning white sand coastline.
There’s the Mayan jungle to explore, hundreds of natural sinkholes called cenotes to visit and swim in, and underground rivers to tour.
Now that the Mayan Train is nearly fully operational, it’s even easier to explore the captivating nature in and around Cancun.
Historical Landmarks
Cancun itself may not be that old of a city, having only been given the designation a few short decades ago in 1974, but the land it’s on has been there a long time.
The Mayan people also occupied it before, and there is evidence of that in and around Cancun in the form of Mayan ruins.
There are even a couple of archeological sites right in Cancun, the El Rey and El Meco ruins, both of which are just steps from the Cancun Hotel Zone.
If you go even further outside of Cancun you’ll find some of the most famous archeological sites in the world, namely the ruins of Chichen Itza.
Fun For Everyone
Finally, one of the biggest reasons Cancun is so popular is that it is a fun destination for everyone.
There are activities and attractions for kids, families, couples, and groups of friends.
It’s even a great vacation destination for solo travelers.
With so much to offer for so many types of travelers, it’s no wonder Cancun is so popular.
