Three Of Quintano Roo’s Most Popular Spots Nominated For Awards at “Travel Oscars”
Cancun, Tulum, and Isla Mujeres have all been recognized with nominations for well-respected tourism awards, cementing the region’s position as one of the best destinations on the planet. Cancun leads the way with five nominations.
The World Travel Awards, in its 29th year, recognize achievement in the travel industry as well as comprehensive awards for the best destination in many categories. The Mexican Caribbean has faired extremely well, with three of its premier destinations receiving multiple nominations for its outstanding hotels, beaches, and natural beauty.
Cancun, the jewel of the Mexican Caribbean and the most popular city in the region, is up for five awards itself. The most prestigious of those is the “Leading Beach Destination In Mexico And Central America 2022”. Voting is currently underway, pitting what is now one of the most popular destinations on the planet against spots in Costa Rica, Belize, and Panama.
Tulum, the fast-growing beach spot and favorite among digital nomads, has also received a nomination in that award, meaning two of the Mexican Caribbean’s top spots are some of the best in the region.
Cancun stood out in several other award nominations including, “Best Business Travel Destination”, “Best City Break Destination”, “Best City Destination”, and “Best Meeting and Conference Destination”.
The business destination and conference nominations are particularly interesting, as work may not be the first thing that springs to mind when considering Cancun. But Cancun’s conference center, as well as hotels with conference and meeting capabilities have made it the perfect destination for companies or organizations seeking an interesting place to hold retreats or large gatherings. Fully equipped, business people can work and relax in Cancun, and allow businesses to offer employees something to truly look forward to in their work year.
Tulum, on the other hand, is seeking to win for a second year straight. After its staggering growth over the past few years, the beachside town found itself in first place at the 2021 ward ceremony, winning the Leading Beach Destination award. It pulled in a staggering 2.2 million votes, showing that this awards ceremony is a significant achievement for any destination.
As Tulum was successful last year, it received an automatic nomination this year. It remains to be seen if it will pull in the same amount of votes or if another destination will beat it to the mark this time. The travel industry is working almost at full steam once again, so Mexican destinations have lost some of their advantages gained during the pandemic as one of the only countries even open to tourism.
Isla Mujeres is continuing its own phenomenal year. The island already appeared in travel giant Expedia’s list of the beach beaches on the planet and has now bagged a nomination for the best island destination. It also won best beach destination in another award ceremony hosted by a Mexican travel magazine named Mexico Unknown.
The island has seen tremendous growth this year, as the crowds on the mainland drive those seeking a more relaxing experience to its perfect sands. Life on Isla Mujeres is more relaxed than that of Cancun and Tulum, making it the perfect spot to truly get away. And it now seems that its location and experiences are being rewarded.
For its part, Cancun International Airport also received recognition for being one of the top airports in the region and, in fact, the world.
Voting is open to the public until July 29th, when the results will be compiled. The announcement will not come for several weeks when an award ceremony is being hosted at a Caribbean resort.
Regardless of the outcome, the nominations highlight the dominance the Mexican Caribbean has in the region and why it remains so popular with tourists from around the world.
