All-Inclusive Resort To Change on March 31
The Isla Mujeres Palace Resort has been sold. The couples-only all-inclusive will run as normal until the 31st of March, before being handed over to its new owners.
The Spanish group, SHA Wellness, completed their purchase and will close the hotel down in April to begin what is expected to be a massive renovation until the end of 2022. SHA is a health and wellness brand that offers very specific vacations designed for people to recuperate or recover in a variety of manners. It is currently unclear what the format of the new hotel will be.
The Palace will be sorely missed in Cancun. The all-inclusive is frequently rated among the top hotels in the area, thanks to its exclusive feel, and child-free atmosphere allowing couples to enjoy a getaway together in luxury. It currently sits high on the TripAdvisor charts. The hotel only has 62 rooms, providing the impression of intimacy on the property.
Important info for guests
The hotel is still accepting bookings until its closing date. It’s actually possible to book beyond that on their site at the moment, but their statement to members and on their pressroom has clarified what will happen in this case.
If a guest is already booked, or books soon for after the March 31st date, the reservation will be immediately transferred to the Sun Palace, the Isla Mujeres’ sister property. Any associated deals with the Isla Mujeres Palace will be honored, including food and drink packages, as well as any activities where possible.
The Sun Palace has been recently renovated and is also an adults-only couple-centric resort.
Those being transferred shouldn’t worry about a loss in quality. Guests at the sun palace can enjoy large rooms with whirlpool jacuzzis, three infinity pools, large cushioned loungers sitting on the beach, a stunning spa with price rooms, 24-hour room service, and multiple drinking and dining options.
It is unclear at this time why the decision was made to sell the Palace Isla Mujeres. Whether the company is turning its attention to the Sun Palace as its premier couple’s destination or they were made an offer they simply couldn’t turn down by Sha, it is undoubtedly a loss for the area.
It should be noted that all staff working at Palace Isla Mujeres are being relocated to other Palace properties in the Cancun region, ensuring the closure will not affect their livelihood.
As for what to expect, SHA Wellness is extremely different from what will be its predecessor. The experience at Sha centers around health and wellbeing within a luxurious setting. Their website explains plans for their new SHA Residences which will open in 2023. It is unclear if this will be the project the Palace will be transformed into, or if they have other plans for it.
In terms of prices, it is also unclear, but those staying at their location in Valencia, Spain can expect to foot a bill of at least $1137 a night. Again, any info other than what is on the site is speculative at this point, but we will ensure information is updated as it becomes available.
However, this is the description of their new Cancun Property.
“SHA Mexico will rise in different heights surrounded by surrounding gardens that will integrate you into the environment. An organic and contemporary design aesthetic will permeate the wellness center, with spaces that flow seamlessly from the interior to the exterior. True to our principles of sustainability, we will minimize environmental impact by opting for mostly natural materials and the use of renewable energy. Marble, Mexican ceramics, wicker or autochthonous fabrics are some of the organic, natural and local materials that we will use in the construction and decoration of this avant-garde wellness centre. The finishes of luxury qualities will follow the latest aesthetic trends respecting the environment.”
