Popular Cancun Resort Stops Taking Reservations After Recent Fire

Last Updated

Last week it was reported that a fire forced tourists out of Cancun’s Hotel Krystal.

Now this popular Cancun resort has stopped taking reservations after the recent fire, though there are still currently guests staying there.

According to reports, though, Hotel Krystal Cancun will not accept any new reservations until the extent of repairs is determined.

The Hotel Krystal Fire

The Hotel Krystal fire occurred last Friday night, filling the Hotel Zone with smoke as guests were evacuated.

The fire, according to reports, was determined to be caused by a short circuit in a new solar panel.

Firefighters were able to distinguish the fire before the hotel was completely destroyed.

The Current Condition Of The Hotel

At this point, the extent of the damage to Hotel Krystal is still unknown.

While the damages still are being assessed, there are about 800 guests currently occupying the hotel, which has a total of 502 rooms.

There have been no reports on which area of the hotel was burned or what amenities might have been affected.

Timeframe For Repairs

According to information provided by staff from the hotel, the decision to stay open or to close for repairs should be made later this week.

The hotel is working with authorities to determine how safe the property is following the fire.

One hotel worker commented to a media outlet that they “are not accepting reservations because of the issue of security for the guests themselves, both direct and external reservations of agencies, some visitors decided to go to other hotels, while others are still here, but there are several amenities that are restricted, everything is still being evaluated, there are elements of Civil Protection worked.”

How Tourists Were Affected

Guests staying at Hotel Krystal the night that the fire occurred had to immediately be evacuated for safety.

Since then, as mentioned above, some guests have been allowed back onto the hotel property to stay, while others have moved to a different hotel.

Other than those that were located in the area of the fire, it’s unclear how many guests had to find new accommodations due to the fire.

What Current Guests Have To Say

According to sources, some guests that are still staying at the hotel are avoiding being in the hotel as often as possible.

This is because guests are reportedly worried about the structure itself, as well as the occurrence of another fire.

Additionally, guests have reported that “the people at the hotel tell us not to worry, but the truth is that they did not give us many solutions.”

Hotel Krystal Cancun

Hotel Krystal Cancun is located in the popular tourist area known as the Cancun Hotel Zone, so its location is popular among tourists who want to explore all that Cancun has to offer for an affordable price.

This area is full of massive resort properties as well, many of which are luxury all-inclusive resorts.

There were no reports of any damage to other hotels in the area due to the Hotel Krystal fire.

Fire Safety On Vacation

Similar to having a plan in case of a fire at home, tourists should also have some idea of how to handle this kind of situation at a hotel as well.

At the very least, make yourself aware of fire exits in the hotel you’ll be staying at.

While hotel fires are rare in Cancun, it’s better to have a plan in case of the unexpected.
