Prices Lowered! Why Now Is The Time To Visit This Tropical Island Paradise Near Cancun

Last Updated

The Mexican Caribbean is home to one of Mexico’s most popular vacation destinations, Cancun.

Most people have heard of Cancun, but there are several other amazing places to visit in the region too.

One of those is the beautiful and charming island of Holbox, which sits off the coast of Chiquila, about two hours from Cancun.

There’s no bad time to visit Holbox, but there are a few reasons why right now is a GREAT time to visit this tropical island paradise near Cancun.

6 Important Things Travelers Need To Know Before Visiting This Island Near Cancun

1.  The Island Is Back In Order Following Recent Storms

This year, there has been a pretty active hurricane season in the Mexican Caribbean, and although none have been devastating, places like Holbox have not come out completely unscathed.

The last two storms to grace the region with their presence, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, caused minor damage and some flooding as well.

Only weeks following the storms, though, Holbox is reportedly cleaned up, services are restored, and the island is ready for tourists.

2.  Hotels Are Offering Big Discounts

Because Holbox has seen a slight downturn in tourism due in part to the active hurricane season, tourism officials are trying to entice travelers to visit the island.

This is why hoteliers are working with the Holbox Hotel Association to let travelers know that hotels are now offering up to 30 percent off accommodations on the island.

As a result, you can find hotels in Holbox right now for less than $100 a night!

3.  Travelers Can Pay Less To Get To Holbox Too

In addition to being able to get accommodations for a lot less right now, travelers can pay less to get to Holbox too.

Ferry companies are charging 30 percent less to get from Chiquila to the island.

Additionally, the ADO bus service is giving 30 percent discounts on the ride from Cancun to Chiquila, so if you’ve ever thought about visiting Holbox while you were vacationing in Cancun, now is the time to do it.

How To Get To Holbox

As mentioned above, to get to Holbox, you have to go to Chiquila first.

The easiest airport to fly into is Cancun because it has the most available flights from international destinations.

Then you’ll have to book transportation to Chiquila, and with the discounts being offered, the ADO bus service may be your best option.

Once in Chiquila, you’ll take a 25-minute ferry ride to the island of Holbox.

3 Things That Make Holbox Unique

Holbox is an amazing place to visit for many reasons, but three things in particular make it unique compared to other destinations in the region.

One is the bioluminescent water that can be seen at night, particularly between the months of March and August.

Another thing that makes Holbox unique is that it is a car-free island.

Additionally, the island is home to a large colony of flamingos, which can be seen in large numbers during the summer months.

Things To Do In Holbox

Like most Mexican Caribbean vacation destinations, Holbox is known for its stunning beaches, so a visit to the island isn’t complete without spending some time on them.

It’s also part of the Yum Balam Nature Reserve.

The reserve is worth a visit any time of the year, but especially during the summer when you’ll find more whale sharks than anywhere else in the world.
