Ritz Carlton has revealed plans to construct a new 15-story luxury resort & residences complex in Cancun by 2027, further growing the city’s availability of high-end accommodations.
The 400-million dollar project is the latest to be announced for Cancun, a city that has seen demand for luxury resorts skyrocket.
The Ritz Carlton Residences Punta Nizuc is slated to open sometime in 2027 and marks the return of the major global luxury brand to Cancun.
The towering 15-story hotel features over 200 rooms, outdoor beachfront pools, six restaurants, and a variety of amenities to enhance guests’ stays.
With travel to Cancun set to boom in the coming years, here’s the latest on Ritz Carlton’s latest luxury undertaking in the Mexican Caribbean hotspot.
Ritz Carlton Makes Cancun Return With Massive Luxury Property
Ritz Carlton has announced its comeback to Cancun two years after exiting the Mexican Caribbean’s growing luxury travel market.
This week, the Maryland-based luxury hotel brand revealed more details about its upcoming 2027 undertaking with FibraHotels, a Mexican luxury hotel construction firm.
The announcement comes amid a sharp increase in demand for high-end travel experiences in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean, with more travelers seeking not only short stays but also the option to live and work in Cancun.
According to Brian King, Marriott International’s President of Caribbean & Latin America (CALA), the new Ritz Carlton Cancun Punta Nizuc fills an important gap in the market for ultra-luxury beachfront resorts and long-term living solutions.
While specific details about the new property are still scarce, Ritz Carlton has revealed that the upcoming resort & residences will feature over 200 rooms, with 131 belonging to the resort and the remaining 126 units comprising branded residences.
Ritz Carlton will erect the new complex in Punta Nizuc on a highly coveted plot of land close to key Cancun attractions & services.
From local Mayan sites to fine-dining options, Punta Nizuc sits on the southern tip of Cancun’s resort zone, offering gorgeous ocean views and unparalleled amenities.
But guests won’t have to venture far to find what they’re looking for, as the new Ritz Carlton Punta Nizuc will feature six world-class restaurants, a dedicated spa wing, and several outdoor pools.
The design of the new property is led by the prestigious architectural firms Lissoni & Partners and Cherem Arquitectos. They have worked on several impressive properties worldwide, including the 5-star Oberoi Al Zorah.
Renders of the new luxury undertaking suggest a contemporary design approach, with large panoramic windows extending across the property, affording ample ocean views.
Touches of greenery provide a fresh appearance to the new resort, in line with the eco-friendly standards prevalent in today’s constructions.
Mara Lezama, the state governor of the Mexican Caribbean state of Quintana Roo, took part in the press conference leading up to the announcement of the new project.
Highlighting Cancun’s growing role as a world-class luxury destination, she welcomed Ritz Carlton’s decision to build the new resort.
Despite being the largest resort hotspot in the Mexican Caribbean, Cancun’s resort zone rarely sees the construction of large sprawling properties due to limits on new projects.
However, the new Ritz Carlton is an exception to the rule and will be developed in the place of a similar project by the Spain-based hospitality giant RIU, which failed to obtain the necessary environmental licenses.
