Resort bookings are up across Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean as the sun-soaked region continues to climb in popularity with travelers.

That’s according to new statistics published this week, which show that some 70% of Cancun’s hotel rooms are already sold out ahead of the summer.

And with a record-breaking number of travelers planning trips to the region this summer, resorts are gearing up for packed beaches and hectic travel scenes.

With just a few weeks until summer is in full swing, here’s a recap of where travelers are headed to summer in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean.

Cancun Bookings Up As Americans Head Out For Summer Break

More travelers are planning trips to Cancun this summer, with the destination ranking high in travel polls.

Already now, several weeks until the official start of the summer season, resorts across the sunny region are seeing above-average occupancy rates.

July and August look particularly promising for resorts in the area, with over 70% of all rooms in Cancun already sold out.

The coastal destination is currently the most popular in the region, with an occupancy rate of nearly 76% this June. That figure is expected to climb well above 80% this summer, even as new resorts open to travelers in the city, like the massive AVA Cancun.

Resorts in Cancun are also bolstering hiring in anticipation of the busy summer, with some properties suffering a staffing shortage of up to 10%.

Rooms In Isla Mujeres To Nearly Sell Out This Summer

Although Cancun remains the trendiest Mexican Caribbean destination in overall travel volume, the nearby island of Isla Mujeres will see even more of its hotel rooms sell out.

The Magical Town destination has an avenger occupancy rate of nearly 83% this month, and with more travelers expected to flock there in the coming months, now’s the last chance to book a room on the tropical island.

Isla Mujeres is a popular choice for day trips from Cancun as well as an excellent destination in its own right.

Home to some of the lavish properties in the area – including the recently-opened Impression Isla Mujeres By Secrets – and numerous private beaches, it’s a hit among travelers.

As a result of the island’s spectacular growth, some smaller hotels on the island have dealt with blackouts amid intense summer heat.

Puerto Morelos Retains Popularity With Travelers

Last but not least, the coastal hotspot of Puerto Morelos is expected to see some of the highest occupancy rates in the Mexican Caribbean this summer.

Situated just south of Cancun, Puerto Morelos is a quaint fishing village with a growing number of luxurious all-inclusive resorts.

The city is currently renovating many of its public beaches, adding new facilities and boosting safety for visitors.

Aside from its rustic vibes and white-sand beaches, Puerto Morelos is home to numerous nature destinations like its famous Ruta de los Cenotes. This year, the city declared a new protected natural area – the Puerto Morelos Mangroves- to offer more eco-tourism possibilities.

Keep These Trending Destinations In Mind

Although the classics of Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and Playa del Carmen will see some of the highest travel volumes this summer, Tulum is expected to also welcome more visitors.

That’s mostly thanks to the opening of Tulum’s new international airport, which is already beating traffic expectations, welcoming several thousand visitors per day.

This week, JetBlue became the latest carrier to launch a non-stop route from JFK to the destination.
