We all want a comfortable base when we go on a trip, somewhere to relax and feel pampered during those all-important days of vacation. The Mexican Caribbean is known for having some of the best hotels and resorts in the world, including some outstanding All-Inclusive resorts in Cancun, so when new hotels are opening, the challenge is on to impress a justifiably choosy crowd. Here are some of the region’s newest resorts, as well as some exciting hotel launches to watch out for over the summer.
Yucatan Resort Playa del Carmen
Hilton’s first Tapestry Collection resort is set right in the heart of the action on Playa del Carmen’s prime shopping street, Fifth Avenue. It’s an adults-only place, with 60 sleek rooms and suites set across four stories. The hotel, which opened in May 2021, has a beautiful rooftop pool and bar, where you can enjoy views of the beach and ocean, which are only steps away.
Experience full-on luxury with an All-Inclusive Plus pass, which buys access to a private beach club, premium dining options, plus additional pools and spa facilities at the sister hotel, Hilton Playa del Carmen.
SLS Cancun Hotel & Residences
The tagline for this new hotel, which opened in February 2021, is ‘SLS Cancun Understands Luxury’. When you step inside, you’ll see why. Set in up-and-coming Puerto Cancun, this 45-room hotel has bright, modern, and surprisingly large rooms, many looking out over the hotel’s private beach club.
When it comes to dining, the Japanese-influenced Argentinian Grill ‘Leynia’ is hard to beat, and you can also tuck into poolside treats from the Altitude Pool and Lounge. And at ‘Ciel Spa’, you can enjoy the full fitness center, or pamper yourself just as you deserve.
Layla Tulum
Offering something a little different is this Moroccan-inspired hotel, set in the heart of Tulum Pueblo, which opened in January 2021. The design-focused hotel really buys into the Tulum esthetic which, if you’re a lover of intricate detail and a serene atmosphere, will leave you delighted.
You’ll enjoy the clean, minimal rooms with bold splashes of color and gorgeous tilework, as well as ‘Burger Bar’, an onsite restaurant with a difference, which fuses Middle Eastern and Mexican Caribbean flavors.
Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts Riviera Maya
Opening this month, the beachfront Nickelodeon Riviera Maya hotel will appeal to families looking for an all-action vacation. Managing to strike a balance between bright and colorful for kids, but sophisticated and tasteful for adults, this hotel looks like it will become an instant success.
This 280 suite hotel has 6 restaurants and 3 bars, which will keep the most discerning of diners satisfied. Kids will love splashing around in the water park, as well as meeting characters from their favorite Nickelodeon shows. This one definitely looks like a crowd-pleaser.
Hotel Xcaret Arte
This much-anticipated hotel, due to open in July 2021, will offer an exciting combination of luxury, fun, and sustainability. With 900 adults-only suites, it’s vast, but the layout and structure of the resort buildings are entirely sympathetic to their tropical surroundings.
The concept here is to celebrate and express Mexican culture by showcasing the work of local artists across the six casas that house the beautiful suites. There are also workshops, where guests can learn Mexico-inspired crafts, such as weaving, painting, and dance. Access to Xcaret’s wildly popular theme parks is also included in this All-Fun Inclusive resort.
Wyndham Tulum Nook
First reported by The Cancun Sun back in February, this 96 room hotel, opening in August 2021, will be one of only a handful of international brand hotels in Tulum, which bring with them the assurance of a high standard of service and comfort. The suites are modern and sophisticated, with large windows designed to bring the outside in.
Tulum Nook is only a few minutes from the world-famous beaches of Tulum and the hotel offers a free shuttle service. Guests will also find an outdoor pool and hot tub, restaurant, and that trendy vibe you can only find in Tulum.
