A new report shows that this winter, Cancun’s vacation clubs are especially popular with travelers, with those accommodations seeing occupancy rates of over 80% during the first month of 2024.
Meanwhile, online vacation rentals are also rising in popularity as travelers seek new adventurous experiences outside of all-inclusive resorts.

Vacation Clubs Report Strong Growth Amid Travel Surge
The launching of the Maya Train and the opening of Tulum’s new International airport are helping Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean to continue growing as some of the most popular destinations for international travel.
While 2023 was already a record-breaking year for the region – with well over 20 million travelers setting foot in the sunny area – this year is likely to be equally successful if not more so.

And while some things are likely to remain the same as last year – plenty of sun, excellent white-sand beaches, and amazing hospitality – new trends are emerging in the Cancun travel market.
A new report shows Cancun’s vacation clubs are particularly trendy with travelers in early 2024, with most establishments in that field seeing occupancy rates of nearly 90% during the first few weeks of the year.
That’s an increase compared to the same period last year, with analysts saying that more American and Canadian travelers are choosing this type of accommodation for its greater flexibility and variety.

A vacation club is a membership-based travel program that allows visitors to book hotels, resorts, and experiences across numerous destinations belonging to a certain organization. While this type of travel comes with several downsides, many visitors opt for vacation clubs due to their exclusive perks and advantages.
And while vacation clubs have grown in popularity, they remain third overall in terms of global popularity, with hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals obtaining a larger share of the current market.

According to Anna Kiseleva, the head of the Regional Association for Vacation and Tourism Complexes (Acotur), travelers have been especially active in terms of booking their vacations well in advance for this year.
That could partly be fuelled by the perceived rise in travel costs, as demand for Cancun and other nearby destinations grows to a record high in 2024.

Meanwhile, new efforts to introduce stricter laws & regulations concerning the vacation rental market are making Airbnbs and other similar properties safer than ever before. With over 40,000 rental units available across the Mexican Caribbean, Airbnbs are here to stay in 2024.
From improved hygiene standards to decreased online scams, officials have implemented several measures to make vacation rentals more reliable for travelers. One of the key frameworks in that process involves obligatory registration in a public registry. Soon, only licensed properties will be allowed to operate in Cancun.
