As the capital of the Yucatan State, you might think that Merida is one of the most visited destinations on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, but this is far from the truth. Many tourists who come to Mexico for their summer vacations often miss out on the stunning colonial architecture, delicious Mexican food, and traditional Mayan culture this stunning city has to offer.
There is also one more reason that Merida is a must-see destination for travellers in need of a luxury getaway: the much-loved hotel Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana is now revamping its facilities for July.
With the addition of 36 new suites and unique features such as an Olympic-size swimming pool, the Hacienda Xcanatun is the ultimate hotel for travellers looking to immerse themselves in Merida’s unique style whilst getting some much-needed rest and relaxation.
Located just 15 minutes away from downtown Merida, the Hacienda Xcanatun combines 18th-century design with contemporary furnishings from local Mexican architects.
The 36 new suites have been crafted from a variety of natural materials, including natural wood, leather and regional limestone. To add to the authenticity of the hotel, native pasta tile flooring has been used, which is typically found in traditional Henquen haciendas built in the Yucatan region in the 19th century.
As well as the new suites, the Hacienda has non-smoking rooms and family rooms, making it a great option for a vacation with your children. Each room is set with a private balcony overlooking the stunning outdoor pool, as well as blackout curtains, an air conditioning unit, a flatscreen TV and an ensuite bathroom.
The elegant hotel is also set to have a multitude of new facilities, such as a brand new Olympic-sized swimming pool. The pool area is set to have 32 lounge chairs and 14 Balinese beds as well as four outdoor showers. There will also be a poolside snack bar on-site, which is able to host 58 diners. Finally, a state-of-the-art gym has been built for the influx of visitors expected for the summer season.
And if the new facilities aren’t enough for you, there is even the Angsana Spa, combining Thai massage with a wide array of treatments combining flowers and fruits from the Yucatan region. This includes aromatherapy practices, body wraps, salt compresses, facials and eye treatments.
The Hacienda is also home to four eateries, ranging from the casual Casa de Piedra Restaurant serving Mexican fare to in-suite dining. There is even the option to have a romantic dinner for two by the Chapel – a fantastic outdoor spot where diners can savour sumptuous dishes under the stars.
Another excellent feature of the Hacienda Xcanatun is its proximity to some of the Yucatan’s gems: The Chicxulub Crater is just minutes away from the hotel by car, where visitors can swim in various ‘cenotes’ or underground pools formed from a fallen asteroid centuries ago. The ancient Mayan city of Uxmal is also a stone’s throw away, allowing visitors to step back in history and walk along the UNESCO World Heritage Site to discover how Mayans used to live.
Travellers looking to stay at the Hacienda Xcanatun will be pleased to note the various accolades the hotel has won: It was awarded a TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award this year, as well as a Conde Nest Choice Award and AAA Four Diamond Award in 2021 for its refined luxury hospitality experience.
All renovations are set to be completed on June 30th. Travellers looking to stay at Hacienda Xcanatun this summer are able to visit the hotel’s website to make bookings now.
