The beaches might be the main attraction in Cancun and the surrounding Mexican Caribbean destinations, but they’re not the only thing to see and enjoy when visiting.
Theme parks are a popular attraction as well.
One that many tourists have visited in the past, particularly those with families, is Ventura Park, but this popular Cancun theme park just closed with no reopening date announced.
Ventura Park’s Sudden Closing
According to reports, the popular Ventura Park in Cancun closed on January 28th, announcing on social media that the park would “remain closed indefinitely.”
There was no explanation given as to why it was closing.
Since the announcement, no other information has been provided by the company.
What To Do If You Have Upcoming Reservations To Visit The Park
If you’ll be visiting Cancun soon you may have bought tickets to Ventura Park in advance, as the online price was much less than buying in person.
Now you’re probably wondering how to go about getting a refund so you don’t lose out on the money you spent.
While there’s nothing you can do at the moment, the park did assure customers that they would be contacted regarding reservations that have already been made.
Speculations About The Reason For The Closing
While there has been no official statement about why Ventura Park was closed, there has been speculation, some of which is fueled by a recent closing for maintenance reasons.
According to one report, park officials announced a maintenance-related closure on January 21st, but it was supposed to be a temporary closure.
Another rumor floating around is that recent security issues in Cancun may have played a role in the ultimate closing of the park.
The History Of Cancun’s Ventura Park
Ventura Park was once known as Wet’n Wild and was just a water park.
It opened more than 25 years ago and remained popular over the years.
It’s the only water park that is located right on the Caribbean coastline.
Why Ventura Park Was So Popular
Today, Ventura Park is made up of different “worlds.” There’s a water park, still called Wet’n Wild, with nine attractions, including a lazy river, a wave pool, five slides, and a couple of water attractions for smaller children.
Aaah! Ventura, which consists of aerial activities like zip lining.
Fun World includes activities for smaller children.
There’s also a go-kart track called Grand Prix, and Underworld, which features virtual reality activities.
With so many activities for the whole family, it’s no surprise it was popular among families visiting Cancun.
Other Popular Theme Parks In And Around Cancun
While Ventura Park has been a go-to for families visiting Cancun, and the closing comes as a surprise, there are other theme parks to visit in and around the destination.
Xcaret operates several parks in the region, each offering something a little bit different.
Those parks are:
- Xcaret! Mexico
- Xel Ha
- Xplor
- Xoximilco
Most of Xcaret’s parks are a short drive from Cancun, located in Playa del Carmen, but they’re worth the trip if you’re looking for a fun-filled, adventurous day.
Cancun As A Family Vacation Destination
Cancun is often viewed as a party destination popular among spring breakers and other partiers, but it’s a great family destination, too.
Not only is there plenty to see and do for families and kids, including numerous beautiful beaches to visit, but several great family-friendly all-inclusives as well.
While a visit to Ventura Parks may not be an option, you will have no trouble keeping your family busy on a Cancun vacation.
