Taxis, Uber, private vehicle transportation, buses, and shuttles are all available for trips in Cancun, as well as for trips to other nearby Mexican Caribbean destinations.
And now, tourist transport around Cancun just got a major upgrade, and there are a few things travelers need to know.

Cancun transportation provider, Autocar, has secured a total of 100 new public transport units, 24 of which are accessible units.
These units are buses that are necessary not only to modernize transportation in Cancun but also to satisfy those who use them.
This is in part due to the increasing complaints from those that use public transportation regarding the condition of the vehicles.

Cancun’s Modernization Of Transportation
The new buses that transportation officials have purchased are much more modern than previous versions.
Made by a well-known vehicle manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, the buses are not only nicer looking and more comfortable, but equipped with modern technology as well.
GPS technology, cameras, air conditioning, and prepaid card technology all combine to bring tourist transportation in Cancun into modern times.

Three Reasons For The Upgrades
There are three specific reasons officials initiated such a massive transportation service upgrade in Cancun.
According to the Director of the Autocar transportation service, Santiago Carrillo, those reasons are the desire to provide more comfortable and efficient transportation, the need to reduce road congestion, and the necessity to improve quality.
Mr. Carrillo pointed out that this initiative will also help meet the demand for urban growth and improve connectivity in the tourist destination.

Why This Upgrade Couldn’t Have Come At A Better Time
This upgrade in public transportation couldn’t have come at a better time, and tourists will no doubt appreciate having another option to get around the city.
This is due to the fact that the situation between Uber and taxi drivers has made neither a very desirable form of transportation at the moment.
While private vehicles are an alternative option as well, the upgraded buses are a much more affordable form of transportation and convenient too, especially in tourist areas.

Cancun Transport Route Updates
In addition to increasing the number of and upgrading public transportation buses, some route updates are also in the works.
The updates are designed to improve connectivity throughout the city to make it easier for tourists to get around all of Cancun.
One of these new routes will include a stop at Cancun’s future Maya Train station, which is expected to be a popular stop among tourists.
