The Mexican Caribbean has no shortage of amazing vacation destinations, and the charming city of Tulum is one of them.
It’s only about two hours south of Cancun, so up until recently, the airport travelers would fly into to get to the destination, which has been consistently growing in popularity over the last several years.
Now Tulum has its own airport, and travelers still can’t seem to get enough of the vacation hotspot, as the new airport has exceeded all expectations in its first year.

Tulum Airport’s Surprising Demand
Tulum Airport opened last December, around the same time the Maya Train’s first routes were inaugurated.
Initial projections were that in the first year of operating the airport, there would be about 4,500 flights total arriving on and departing from its runways.
Surprisingly, the number far exceeded the projections, reaching closer to 8,000, with a total of 7,790 flights arriving and departing at the new airport and more than 1 million passengers.
International Airlines That Fly To Tulum
There are a total of 15 airlines that offer flights to Tulum.
Most of those flights are operated by just 12 of those airlines, and only 4 offer flights to and from U.S. airports.
Those airlines are:
- American Airlines
- Delta
- JetBlue
- United Airlines
Airport Connectivity With Tulum Airport
Tulum Airport already has pretty decent connectivity, only a year after opening, with both domestic and international destinations.
On March 28th of this year, it welcomed its first international flight from the United States.
Altogether, direct flights are available from a total of 22 airports around the world, and 11 of them are U.S. airports.
Getting From Tulum Airport To Tulum
Tulum Airport is located a little bit outside of the actual city itself, in a town called Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
This is why the airport is also referred to as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport.
There are several options available to get from the airport to the city, similar to those offered at Cancun Airport.
Private transportation, ADO buses, taxis, and the Maya Train are all available from Tulum Airport.
What Makes Tulum So Popular?
Tulum is known for many things, including beautiful beaches, gorgeous cenotes, and fascinating Mayan ruins.
It’s also known for being a wellness and eco-tourism destination, which is much of the cause for the growing popularity of Tulum among international travelers from around the world.
Downtown Tulum is popular among visitors as well due to its charming nature, rich culture, storied history, quaint shops, and great food.
Things To Do In Tulum
A visit to Tulum wouldn’t be complete without spending some time on its amazing white sand, and aqua-blue water beaches.
A visit to the seaside ruins is a must too, as the ruins are spread out over one of the most important Mayan archeological sites in the country.
Last but not least, strolling around the downtown area, or Tulum Pueblo, is a great way to explore the history and culture of Tulum.
Staying In Tulum
Tulum does have its share of luxury all-inclusive resorts, like Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club and Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa, just to name a couple, but that’s not all that it has.
You’ll also find affordable hostels, sustainable eco-friendly hotels, boutique hotels, and even vacation rentals.
Tulum has no shortage of charm, excitement, and opportunities for relaxation, and there are plenty of great lodging options, as well as flights to get there.

The airport is 83km from the town of Felipe Carillo Puerto and 40 km from Tulum. It's named after a person named Felipe Csrillo Puerto, it's not in the town of Felipe Carillo Puerto
