United Airlines has announced that it will significantly ramp up flights to Cancun this winter to meet skyrocketing demand from U.S. travelers.
The carrier, which operates the third-largest commercial airline fleet in the world, is the latest to increase the frequency of flights to the crown jewel of the Mexican Caribbean.
With several U.S.-based airlines planning to heavily focus on destinations in the Mexican Caribbean this winter, here’s the latest on United’s decision to launch more non-stop flights.
United Increases Supply Of Cancun Flights From Major U.S. Cities
Cancun’s soaring popularity among U.S. travelers is nothing short of spectacular. The sun-soaked destination has reported consistent growth in arrival figures following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this winter, demand is expected to smash all records.
With demand for the tropical destination rising, airlines have announced plans to augment the number of flights to Cancun, with some airlines also opting for larger jets on flights to the Mexican Caribbean.

This week, United Airlines became the latest airline to reveal a growing focus on Cancun this winter, with the airline announcing more weekly flights to the coastal destination from key U.S. regional hubs.
The airline will provide travelers with more options to reach Cancun from December to March, coinciding with the peak of the winter season that regularly sees millions of American flock to Cancun’s white-sand beaches.
United Airlines will operate a total of 87 flights from Denver to Cancun this December and 73 from Los Angeles. Meanwhile, United is increasing the number of flights from Chicago to the resort hotspot from 86 to 78.
Travelers planning a winter getaway to Cancun from Chicago this year or early 2024 can purchase round-trip tickets with United for around $350 in basic economy.
Flights from Denver are slightly pricier, with round-trip flights setting travelers back around $400 for the 4-hour flight. Lastly, non-stop flights from Los Angeles cost significantly less, and travelers can book round-trip flights for as little as $298.
However, flights closer to Christmas and New Year are generally pricier due to greater demand, so travelers should book well in advance to secure the best price.

Aside from adding more flights on existing routes to Cancun, United Airlines recently took the unprecedented decision of using the much larger Boeing 777-200 on its Cancun route this fall from its Chicago, Denver, and Houston hubs.
This means that the airline will offer over 100 more seats on its flights compared to smaller narrow-body aircraft. For now, United has said it will use larger aircraft in October and November, although the airline might extend their use according to demand.
These Airlines Have Announced New Cancun Flights For The Winter Season
Several major North American carriers have announced new flights to Cancun for the winter 2023-2024 season, including American Airlines, which will operate up to 40 daily non-stop flights to the sun-soaked destination.
Meanwhile, Air Canada will massively increase the number of non-stop flights to Cancun this winter, with 14 weekly flights to the resort destination from Montreal. Canada’s flag carrier will also operate 21 weekly direct connections from Toronto to Cancun this winter, up from 10 weekly flights last year.
Travelers in smaller regional cities like Halifax and Edmonton will also enjoy more non-stop connections, providing a massive boost in air connectivity to Canadian travelers this winter.
Recent announcements of more flights and routes mean that Cancun is one step close to smashing its all-time arrival figure this winter.
