New to Playa del Carmen and looking to meet other travelers? Whether you’re a digital nomad passing through paradise for a few weeks or are a snowbird that spends the cold winter months enjoying Playa, there are events happening every week in this bustling city to get to know other travelers and locals in Playa del Carmen.
These weekly events in Playa del Carmen will make you feel at home in no time.
Salsa Nights At Buzo’s Restaurant Playa Del Carmen
Right in the heart of the Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhood is one of the most lively weekly meetups in Playa del Carmen – Salsa Nights! Held every Friday evening at Buzo’s Restaurant, this event has been happening for a few years now, and it’s a great way to meet other expats and travelers in your area. Don’t worry if you’re not salsa savvy (yet!) everyone is very welcoming; it’s all about mingling and getting to meet new people.
When: Every Friday evening. Check their socials at @buzosplayadelcarmen for times, but it usually starts at 8 or 9 p.m.
Cost: The event is free, but make sure to buy a drink and/or food to show your support.
Volleyball At Coco Beach
Hanging out in Coco Beach on Sundays (or any day, really) means that you’ll end up stumbling upon at least one expat/digital nomad meetup. Whether it’s acro yoga, ultimate frisbee, or just a jam session, this Playa del Carmen beach is the local spot to meet people and enjoy the outdoors.
On Sunday afternoon, head to the area with the volleyball net in the middle of the beach and join in on the game! A group of long-term travelers typically organize the event. And like most Playa del Carmen events, everyone is super welcoming.
When: Sundays between 12-5 (time varies)
Cost: Free

Laura’s Weekly Pub Quiz Night In Playa Del Carmen
Another big Buzo’s event, Laura’s Tuesday Pub Quiz, has become a weekly staple for travelers and expats living in Playa del Carmen. It’s 6 people per team/table, and you can come with a group already made, or you’ll be set up with a group, which is a great way to meet new people!
The event is in English, and questions are typical trivia questions on everything from pop culture, geography, sports, science, etc. You can follow the event’s page of Instagram where Laura will post some hints on questions that will be asked each week.
When: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
Cost: 50 pesos entry, food and drink extra.
Yoga At The Green Village Hotel
Just off 10th Avenue a few blocks from the Quinta Alegria Shopping Mall, is the Green Village Hotel and Hostel. They host daily yoga and meditation classes as well as talks, and it’s a great place to meet and mingle with other travelers and expats. Joining a yoga class every week during your time in Playa del Carmen can be an easy way to build a routine and make the city feel more like home.
Yoga classes are 120 per session/500 for 5 classes, and 30 pesos for mat rental. Classes run daily, and they update their schedule every week, so go by for a visit or check their Instagram page for updates.
When: Every day between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. (schedule updates every week)
Cost: 120 pesos per class
Bi-Weekly Blues At The Lotus
Lotus Rouge has been an establishment for the alternative arts community in Playa del Carmen for years now. It’s a funky and welcoming space that has hosted comedy nights, acrobatic shows, live music, and anything arts, community, and culture-related. Recently under new management with the name changed to simply “The Lotus,” there are still inspiring live music performances here if you’re looking for something a little different beyond 5th Avenue.
The main event that they’re hosting right now is an open mic night, Bi-Weekly Blues. The event is free for musicians performing, and it’s 100 pesos for entry. Keeping with the spirit of Lotus Rouge, it’s a great place to check out every week and meet other like-minded travelers.
When: Every second Monday at 8 p.m. (check The Lotus Facebook page for updates)
Cost: 100 pesos entry
