The Maya Train has now been running services for two months, and its popularity seems to be on the up, with more and more tourists choosing it as their mode of transport throughout the Yucatan Peninsula.
Serving more than 50,976 passengers so far, foreign tourists and locals are eagerly awaiting more routes to become fully operational and more schedules times to be announced; both of which are currently lacking.
As with anything that is new, the uptake of customers is slow and steady, while more people hear about the success of the service and begin to trust it.
In an attempt to encourage more tourists to use the Maya Train, authorities want to make it easier than ever for them to purchase tickets.
Making Maya Train Easier To Buy Tickets
The Maya Train currently has 22 of a possible 34 stations that are active and is set to have them all become fully operational by June of this year (a few months later than originally planned).

The railway project covers all five states in southeastern Mexico, and hopes to open up the entire peninsula to locals and tourists for them to discover and witness the brilliance of the region.
Currently, it is international travelers that are the lowest percentage of customers choosing to use the Maya Train, which can perhaps be put down to the fact that the service is still in its pre-opening stages.
Package deals and promotions in airports and popular hotel zones in the region are not yet established, as they are cautious about overpromise to tourists in case the newest sections become even more delayed.

As the new section, which runs between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun, is set to begin operations on February 29th, the outlook seems more positive, and authorities will begin to create and publish tour deals to make the service more enticing.
After all, tourists will be far more inclined to purchase tickets for the Maya Train if there is a deal to be had.
It could look something like “visiting three magical towns in one day for a special price”, or “exploring nearby archeological sites at a discount.”
Hotels may also be able to create specific deals with the Maya Train to allow for airport transports to be a special cost, therefore enticing more and more people to use the service.
For now, Maya Train tickets can be purchased on this official website or at many of the stations along the current routes.
The Newest Route On The Maya Train
Although February 29th was the original date for the Cancun to Tulum route to begin (which many tourists were excited about), the confirmed route between Cancun and Playa del Carmen is still one to shout about.
Scheduled for both morning and afternoon trips that depart from both destinations, the route will include departures at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 3:00pm from Cancun and 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 4:30 pm from Playa del Carmen.
Prices for the service have yet to be announced but will be able to be purchased from the above-mentioned website and most likely at the station when it opens.
Playa del Carmen is another huge tourist hub, which many American visitors choose both as their vacation base, as well to visit from the most popular hotspot that is Cancun.
Located in the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen is host to some stunning beaches that look like something directly out of a postcard and will absolutely give you that much-needed R&R on its sugary white sands and crystal clear waters.
The city is also home to a popular nightlife scene and some great shopping areas, where you can shop for locally made goods, taste some incredible Mexican cuisine, and then party the night away if you so wish.
Playa del Carmen is also in close proximity to other popular destinations like Tulum and some great tourist attractions like the Xcaret Part, a natural water park where you can take boat rides, swim with dolphins, and witness sharks, stingrays, and crocodiles.
Why not test out the Maya Train while it still remains relatively unknown and before it becomes the number one transport service in the region?
