11 New Hotels Have Been Built In Cancun In The Last 2 Years And Four More Are On Their Way

The Mexican Caribbean vacation destination of Cancun is home to all kinds of hotels and resorts, from simple to luxurious, and 11 new hotels have been added in the last two years and four more are on their way.  The four that are currently in the works are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.  This will put the total hotel count in Cancun at 205, with nearly 50,000 rooms between them.

Two of the hotels currently in the works are in the central area of the city, where about 70 of the city’s current 201 hotels are located.  One is adjacent to the Cancun International Airport, while the other is close to the ADO bus terminal.  The other two hotels being built right now are located in the Cancun Hotel Zone and will add about 600 more rooms that will be available for vacationers.

For a city that is only 13 miles long and about a third of a mile wide, more than 200 hotels and resorts may seem like a lot but the numbers don’t lie.  During the busy seasons in Cancun, hotel capacity reaches nearly 100 percent, and even during the slower times of the year, the city is still bustling with tourists.  Because it is so popular many travelers book their Cancun hotels far in advance to be sure that they can find a place for their vacation.

Last year was a good year for opening new hotels in Cancun and this year is just as good, if not better.  Between 2020 and April of this year a total of 11 new hotels and resorts were opened in the city.  Some of these are located in the Cancun Hotel Zone, some are in the downtown area, and others are in various corners of the city near one of the area’s beautiful beaches.

While a few of these new properties are just simple hotels, the majority are luxurious resorts that will enhance any Caribbean vacation experience.  Some of the new hotels added in 2021 and early 2022 include:

  • Royal Uno All-Inclusive Resort & Spa
  • Hilton Garden Inn
  • Breathless Soul Resort & Spa
  • Hilton All-Inclusive Resort
  • Fairfield Inn & Suites
  • Planet Hollywood All-Inclusive
  • Secrets Riviera Resort & Spa
  • Residence Inn

Many resorts in Cancun are all-inclusive but there are some that are not, for those that prefer to explore a little more beyond their resort.  There is also plenty of adult-only resorts throughout the city for travelers looking for something a little more peaceful and romantic. And for families, there are multiple resorts with small water parks, kids’ pools, and plenty of kid-friendly activities.

By the end of this year, we can expect to see a new Waldorf Astoria, Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, RIU Palace Kukulkan Hotel, and the Wyndham Grand Cancun All-Inclusive.  Hotel and resort projects are already underway for completion next year as well.  And if the popularity of the Mexican Caribbean vacation destination continues to rise it is likely we’ll see even more hotels added to keep up with the ever-growing demand.

Cancun is a destination travelers go to for the warm weather, beaches, nightlife, water activities, and great food but the accommodations you go back to at the end of a long day of exploring matter too.  With every new resort that comes to the city there seem to be more and more luxurious options, giving endless opportunities for the ultimate vacation in Cancun.
