Two big names in the Cancun all-inclusive scene are about to feel brand new again. We at The Cancun Sun have confirmed that Royalton Riviera Cancun and Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun are both scheduled to reopen on December 7 after a multi-million dollar renovation, just in time for peak winter season.
Across the twin resorts, 1,183 rooms and suites have been revamped, along with 22 restaurants and bars and a refreshed convention center and event space aimed at boosting the region’s already strong meetings and events scene.
Here’s what travelers need to know before hitting “book.”

Where These “New” Royaltons Fit Into Your Cancun Plans
Both properties sit in the Riviera Cancun / Puerto Morelos corridor, an easy drive from Cancun International Airport and within day-trip distance of the Hotel Zone, Isla Mujeres, and the rest of the Riviera Maya.
Think of them as sister resorts with two different personalities:
- Royalton Riviera Cancun – large, lively, and family-friendly, with multiple pools, kids and teens clubs, splash areas, and room categories that work well for multi-generational trips.
- Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun – an 18+ adults-only enclave tucked inside the same complex, with its own dedicated pool, beach area, and upgraded amenities, but full access to the broader resort next door.
If you’re trying to choose between them, a quick rule of thumb:
- Bringing kids or a big group? Start with Royalton Riviera and compare it to other options in our guide to the top family-friendly Cancun all-inclusives for 2025.
- Planning a couples’ trip or friends getaway? Hideaway’s quieter vibe is more in line with the adults-only feel travelers already love at places like Hyatt Zilara and other grown-ups-only escapes we cover in our renovation and butler-service round-ups.

What’s Actually Being Upgraded
According to official reporting, the 1,183 refreshed rooms and suites now feature new interior design, updated furnishings, and enhanced in-room technology, from lighting to connectivity.
On the food and beverage side, 22 restaurants and bars across the complex have been reimagined, which should mean more modern menus and better layouts for high-season crowds.
Just as important for certain travelers, the convention center and meeting rooms have been upgraded with the MICE market in mind. That’s a big plus if you’re:
- Tagging along on a work trip
- Planning a destination wedding
- Coordinating a large incentive or corporate retreat
In the last year we’ve already seen major upgrades at other Cancun all-inclusive properties, from Club Med to Hotel Xcaret and a wave of high-end openings, as we broke down in our story on three Cancun hotels getting massive upgrades in 2025.
The Royaltons slot neatly into that trend: not brand-new builds, but serious glow-ups of resorts travelers already know.

Part Of A Bigger Cancun Renovation Wave
Royalton Riviera and Hideaway aren’t alone. This low season, nearly 4,000 rooms across the Mexican Caribbean have been closed for renovations, including more than 3,100 in Cancun, plus additional properties in Puerto Morelos and the mainland side of Isla Mujeres.
One standout example is SeaDust Cancun, which has poured roughly $29 million into upgrades over the last few years to stay competitive in the four-star family market.
All of this is happening on top of a once-in-a-generation building boom. As we recently reported in our deep dive on how Cancun has solidified itself as the “undisputed king” of Mexican tourism, Cancun and the Riviera Maya captured 97% of all new hotel rooms opened in Mexico in the first half of 2025, with thousands more still on the way.
Pair that with fresh data showing Cancun leads the four most popular destinations in Mexico for international arrivals this year, and the message is clear: demand isn’t slowing down, so resorts are racing to level up.
There’s also a strategic eye on 2026 and the FIFA World Cup. Officials estimate the Mexican Caribbean could welcome up to 1 million additional visitors around the tournament, and Cancun is positioning itself as the unofficial hub for fans and even national teams, as we covered in our guide to why Cancun will be a World Cup hub despite not hosting any matches.

Practical Tips For Booking The Reopened Royaltons
1. Time your trip wisely
The official reopening date is December 7, which puts it right on the edge of winter high season. If you love being among the first to experience a revamped resort, mid-December and early January could be exciting—but keep expectations flexible, as staff and systems settle into their new rhythm.
If you’d rather let any “new resort kinks” work themselves out, consider dates from late January onward, when occupancy is strong but the operation is more dialed in.
2. Pick the vibe that matches your group
Families & groups: Start with Royalton Riviera, then cross-check other options in our family-friendly all-inclusive guide.
Couples & adults-only: Hideaway’s dedicated spaces feel closer to the adults-only upgrades we’ve seen at other properties, like GR Solaris’ conversion and Hyatt Zilara’s makeover, covered in our renovation news.

3. Watch for soft-opening promos
Newly reopened resorts often roll out introductory offers or perks to rebuild occupancy. Stack that with shoulder-season dates and you might find better value than you’ll get at long-sold-out properties in the Hotel Zone.
4. Think beyond the pool
With the convention center upgrades, expect more conferences, weddings, and events on-site. If you prefer a quieter stay, avoid dates that overlap with big conventions, or consider splitting your trip—half at the Royaltons, then a few nights on Isla Mujeres, which was just named one of the safest destinations in Mexico.
5. Keep an eye on conditions for December trips
The good news: hurricane season is ending and sargassum season has eased off early, as we’ve been reporting in our hurricane and seaweed updates for November.
For a deeper dive on what to expect if you’re arriving right around reopening, our guides to visiting Cancun in November and why Cancun is trending as a winter escape break down weather, crowds, and prices in detail.

Bottom line?
With two freshly renovated Royalton properties back in the mix—on top of huge investment across the region—winter 2025–26 in Cancun is shaping up to be more competitive, more polished, and more in-demand than ever.
If these “new again” all-inclusives are on your radar, now’s the time to start scouting dates and locking in flexible rates before everyone else catches on.
