The Maya Train will soon be a reality for millions of travelers and residents, revolutionizing public transport in the Mexican Caribbean.
While tourists still have to wait a couple of months for the train to be officially inaugurated, officials have slowly revealed how the massive infrastructure project might benefit travelers.
The Maya Train is the largest infrastructure project to date in Mexico, costing up to $15 billion. The massive railway system will cover 5 Mexican Caribbean states, including Quintana Roo, with 16 stations dotted around the region’s main tourist hubs.
From more affordable public transport options to tasty culinary experiences, here are 5 exciting ways the Maya Train will benefit travelers in Cancun:
Faster And Better Public Transport
Despite leading the country as the most popular tourist hotspot, Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean are sorely lacking in public transport options. Upon arriving in Cancun, travelers are thus forced to choose between overpriced taxis or crowded (but generally high-quality) bus lines.
The Maya Train will vastly change how travelers get around in the Mexican Caribbean; starting this December, tourists will be able to cruise at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour, significantly cutting down on transport times and making for a much more comfortable travel experience.

Massive Amount Of New Cultural And Historical Sites
The Maya Train will create a new way for travelers to explore countless hidden treasures across the Mexican Caribbean. From hitherto off-the-beaten-path historical ruins to massive national parks, travelers can look forward to a new realm of possibilities thanks to the 1500-kilometer-long railway project.

Some of the most significant new attractions that will become available to travelers include the Parque del Jaguar near Tulum, a massive ecological reserve that showcases the natural riches of the Mexican Caribbean. Meanwhile, travelers along the Izalmal-Cancun section can stop at El Meco, a stunning Mayan ruin just north of Cancun.
Smooth Airport Transfer Experience
Travelers can kiss goodbye to the days of having to wait in long queues for airport taxis, as a new massive train station will open right next to Cancun International Airport.
From there, travelers can easily make their way to destinations like Playa del Carmen or Tulum safely and at record speed. While the train station will not be located in any of the airport’s terminals, travelers will have several ways to reach the massive railway stop, including shuttle busses.
More Options For Day Trips
While Cancun boasts such an extensive array of attractions that travelers could easily spend weeks discovering them all, the Maya Train will make it easier than ever before to travel to new exciting destinations.
Whether it be a shopping trip to nearby Playa del Carmen or a longer day trip to Mérida, the Maya Train provides the flexibility and comfort travelers need for an unforgettable vacation.
Sea, sun, and history are all within reach thanks to the massive infrastructure project, which includes a total of 16 stations across 5 Mexican Caribbean states.
New On-Board Culinary Experiences
One of the biggest highlights of the new Maya Train is its wide variety of onboard culinary experiences. From light snacks to heavier meals, travelers are guaranteed to find tasty, locally sourced ingredients.
Riders of the Maya Train will be able to savor everything from local delicacies to fine international flavors. Several Mexican chefs and culinary experts are working with local officials to create inspirational menus that will be featured onboard each and every train.

Is very difficult not to talk about politics and I have to say it. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is the best president of Mexico. I’m very excited about to ride in the new train.
