As Mexico’s costliest railway project nears completion, here’s everything travelers need to know about the Maya Train’s foodie experiences.

Maya Train To Include Tasty Foodie Experiences

Food has always been one of the defining features of Mexican culture, especially in Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean, where an explosion of flavors awaits the senses.

So it’s only natural for the Maya Train to incorporate that same principle as part of its culinary offerings.

According to the latest updates, revealed this week, the Maya Train will come with a restaurant car where passengers can choose from a range of delicious foods and drinks. From light snacks to tasty meals, travelers be spoiled for choice.

Regardless of the specifics, the entire offerings have been carefully curated by local chefs and culinary experts. While the final menu and food options have yet to be revealed, the Maya Train’s food offerings will focus on authenticity and local flavors that reflect the region’s centuries-long culinary history while also offering modern classics.

For now, travelers can look forward to tasty classics like tacos, guacamole, or ceviche, as well as a range of refreshing drinks. Officials say that they will also be offering several international food choices, especially as over 70% of all future passengers will be from North America.

While the food itself is a major goal for officials, the train’s unique design goes hand in hand with the onboard culinary experience.

The Maya Train’s restaurant car will feature a modern layout that invites travelers to relax and enjoy the views as the train traverses lush jungles.

The Maya Train’s restaurant cart will have flexible seating options, with tables for two, and four, and plenty of space for solo travelers.

With environmental sustainability being a major concern, designers and engineers are being careful to work with local businesses and providers to ensure minimal emissions.

Maya Train: Here Are The Latest Updates

In addition to revealing new information on the Maya Train’s delicious food offerings, officials published new sketches of some of the project’s main stations.

The digital drawings show what the ultra-modern stations will look like once the project is complete this December.

Cancun Station will be the Maya Train’s largest stop by far, with 10 tracks and a massive floor plan designed to give passengers as much room as possible.

The new renderings showcase a modern and practical design, featuring airy interior spaces that promote a feeling of openness.

Meanwhile, officials also published renderings of the new Puerto Morelos station, which will be considerably more compact compared to Cancun’s expansive terminal. Its design is inspired by local Mayan heritage, with red and brown hues predominating the interior and exterior.

The Maya Train project is a significant railway infrastructure investment announced by the government in 2018, valued at over $20 billion, although it is likely the real costs will exceed this figure considerably.

It stands as one of the most extensive infrastructure undertakings to date, encompassing a 1545-kilometer rail network that starts at Cancun International Airport and navigates through the Riviera Maya and Yucatan Peninsula regions.

If everything goes to plan, the Maya Train will be finalized by September 2023 and will commence operations by December of the same year.

The massive project has faced severe setbacks due to local opposition and environmental groups, which have criticized its impact on local nature reserves, among other things.

The Maya Train will have 34 stations, including 7 adjacent to airports, traverse 26 archaeological sites, and operate with 42 trains on the rail network.

The system will be capable of accommodating over 40,000 passengers and several tons of cargo per day.
