Holbox Island has steadily been gaining in popularity for the last ten to fifteen years. There has been huge growth in its restaurant and bar scene, as well as almost continual construction of new resorts and hotels to meet visitor demand. It’s no surprise – Holbox Island has a lot to offer visitors, including lower levels of sargassum than other Mexican Caribbean destinations. But with such a vast number of places to stay, it can be difficult to decide which hotel you should book. So, here we’ve compiled a list of the 5 best hotels on Holbox Island.
El Corazon Boutique Hotel
El Corazón Boutique Hotel consistently ranks well amongst Holbox hotels. It takes its eco-credentials seriously, offering guests bamboo mattresses, solar-generated power, and a 0% plastic consumption policy. These considerations are of particular importance on small islands like Holbox, where maintaining the balance between the island ecology and the desires of guests is essential.
El Corazón is constructed in the traditional Holbox style with a palapa-thatched roof. Its 11 rooms are decorated in a neutral pallet with a focus on natural materials and textures. Guests can enjoy breakfast or an evening drink on the rooftop terrace, which offers beautiful views over the water, which is just a few steps away.

Tierra del Mar Hotel
Tierra del Mar is a small adults-only hotel located just 50m from the beach and a couple of blocks from Holbox’s main square, so the location is hard to beat. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back, and with only 6 rooms, the service is ultra-personalized.
Guests enjoy the minimal decor, which is soothing, comfortable, and non-fussy. There is a lovely tropical garden and a pool with double lounger mattresses if you don’t want to hit the beach. Breakfast is served in the palapa-thatched central structure and a living room serves as a communal chill-out space where guests can come together to chat, read a book, or simply relax.

Hotel Para Ti
Hotel Para Ti is an adults-only property offering charming rooms filled with Mexican touches including brightly-colored embroidery, comfortable hammocks, and palapa-fringed balconies. The hotel’s ?? rooms are centered around a communal courtyard which is crammed full of plants as well as a welcome pool with a central sun terrace. There are also multiple roof terraces with loungers, so there’s always a spot to chill out.
Located within a few minutes of both the beach and Holbox’s center, Hotel Para Ti feels quiet but is super convenient. In the mornings, breakfast can be enjoyed in the pretty gardens and there’s a handy onsite bar for that early evening beer or cocktail.

Beachfront Hotel La Palapa
In a prime location right on the ocean, you’ll find Beachfront Hotel La Palapa, a 24-room hotel built in traditional Mexican style, with palapa thatches and wooden beams. The simple rooms create a feeling of coolness, with their terracotta tiled floors and wafting curtains enticing in the breeze.
One of the benefits of being beachfront is those ocean views while you sip on your first coffee of the day. Enjoy the sound of the waves as you dine in the hotel’s beach bar, perhaps sipping on an early evening drink. Many rooms have balconies overlooking the beach, or large picture windows to take in the views. There’s also a rooftop terrace with a jacuzzi for the perfect sundowner setting.
