5 Of The Most Unique Airbnbs In The Mexican Caribbean

Last Updated

This summer season is set to be one of the busiest times for travel within the Mexican Caribbean: with Cancun named as one of the top destinations in Mexico for Americans, the sun-soaked city and its surrounding areas are guaranteed to be packed with visitors in search of the sun, sand and sea.

Mexican AirBnB

Despite the plethora of all-inclusive resorts on offer, many travellers now desire more unique styles of accommodation, for a trip that is truly memorable. This is where the magic of Airbnb comes in: we’ve rounded up five of the most special accommodations listed on AirBnB.com in the Mexican Caribbean. From a night away in an ocean-inspired house to a week in a hacienda with a private cenote, there is truly something for everyone on this list.

Casa Nawal Beachfront Mayan Lodge, Tulum

One of several Casa Nawal beachfront lodges

If you can’t get enough of the sun and surf, this beachfront lodge is the perfect accommodation for you. Situated on the coast of Tulum directly across from the Caribbean sea, the Casa Nawal offers travellers an unforgettable stay in a cabana-style tent. Suitable for two guests, the accommodation offers a private patio or balcony, as well as an ensuite bathroom and firepit. As an additional benefit, the Casa is just a 20-minute walk away from the Tulum Archaeological Zone, perfect for visitors who are anxious to get a glimpse of traditional Mayan culture.

Hacienda San Lorenzo Oxman with Cenote and Pool, Chichen Itza

The entrance to the Hacienda San Lorenzo Oxman

For visitors looking for adventure, the Hacienda San Lorenzo Oxman is the only option: built in 1746, this accommodation is steeped in traditional Mexican history, but provides several modern furnishings for the comfort of its guests. Perfect for a long-term stay, this amazing accommodation offers travellers breakfast every morning, as well as free parking on-site.

Hacienda Cenote
The Cenote San Lorenzo is accessible through the Hacienda San Lorenzo

It also provides exclusive access to the stunning Cenote San Lorenzo, complete with a rope swing and hammocks to relax in. This accommodation is suitable for up to two guests.

Jungle Cabin, Tulum:

The view is spectacular from the Jungle Cabin bedroom

If you love nature, a stay in one of Tulum’s Jungle Cabins is ideal. Each cabin is made from a blend of wood and natural materials from the jungle, with enough modern appliances to feel at home (including AC, a mini-fridge, and a Nespresso Coffee Machine). Each cabin also has bikes available for guests to explore the local area – just 1.5km away from downtown Tulum and 7km away from the nearest beach, the Jungle Cabin is a fantastic option for up to two guests.

The Seashell House, Isla Mujeres:

Aerial view of the Seashell House

Potentially the strangest Airbnb listing in the Yucatan, the Seashell House in Isla Mujeres invites guests to relax in a huge conch-shell-themed accommodation, complete with ocean-themed bathrooms, bedrooms and outdoor areas. Up to four guests can stay at this weird and wonderful home, which is equipped with a large outdoor pool, private patio and kitchen. The house is also a short distance away from Punta Sur – a stunning ecological park with a lighthouse viewing point. Guests looking to stay at the seashell house are advised to book far in advance as this accommodation is incredibly popular.

Palmares Downtown Penthouse with Private Jacuzzi, Playa del Carmen:
