Why Newlyweds Are Flooding To Cancun, Tulum, And Playa Del Carmen

As Covid relinquishes its grip on the world, the travel industry is being inundated with an extremely specific type of trip – postponed honeymoons. The Mexican Caribbean is positioning itself at the top of the list for newlyweds.

Hundreds of thousands of weddings across the world were delayed, canceled, or downsized between the start of 2020 and now, and even those who managed to squeeze in a honeymoon are suggesting it was underwhelming. Many are redoing their post-nuptial trip, seeking something bigger, better, and more luxurious, tying in with the pent-up demand for travel across the world.

The region is now frequently mentioned as one of the world’s most romantic destination, thanks to its perfect mix of natural beauty, luxury, and adventure. Here’s why the Mexican Caribbean is the best place for honeymoons in 2022.

  1. It’s Spectacularly Beautiful

No one wants to celebrate their honeymoon somewhere drab and unappealing on the eye. Luckily, the Mexican Caribbean is breathtaking from every angle. There’s a reason that hotels set up shop there.

From its pristine beaches to lush rainforests, there’s natural beauty in every direction. Even the hotel zone in Cancun, which is packed with buildings, holds its own spectacular allure thanks to the island setting.

Let’s face it, is a honeymoon really a honeymoon without a romantic sunset walk on the beach?

2. There Are Plenty Of Couple-Centric Hotels

Nothing ruins a romantic moment more than screaming children, stressed-out parents, or rowdy parties. Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and the rest of the major spots are all home to multiple hotels where kids aren’t allowed. Some are even couples-only, making those the ideal spot for a pair of newlyweds.

If the name throws you off a little, don’t worry. Adults-only hotels aren’t as x-rated as they sound, and just means that the experience is going to be catered to grown-ups. The pools areas will be quieter, the food even better, and the hotel can focus on making experiences geared towards you far easier. Think couples massages, private excursions, luxury rooms, and a relaxed atmosphere throughout the hotel. No energy wasted on kids clubs and water slides.

With that said, double-check which hotel you choose. Some are a little more playful, geared at adults that like to party a little harder than most.

3. They Have All-Inclusive Down To An Art

The thing you want to do the most on a honeymoon is absolutely nothing at all. All-inclusive are the best way to guarantee that the experience is effortless, and the Mexican Caribbean is home to some of the best in the world.

If you’re unfamiliar with all-inclusive, these hotels come with everything. Your price isn’t just for room and breakfast. All of your meals, all alcohol, and usually all access to the hotel’s amenities come included (although you might still have to pay for a few services like spas).

We’re not talking a lukewarm buffet either. Some Cancun and Tulum establishments, like the new Hilton Cancun, have as many as thirteen restaurants on site, sporting an array of foods like sushi, steakhouses, Mexican, Italian, and Chinese, all the way to simple coffee shops and cocktail bars.

4. There’s so much to do

Of course, not all of us can sit in a sun lounger for ten days. For the more adventurous newlyweds, Quintana Roo is one of the most exciting places in Mexico to explore. The usual resort-based activities are easy to find, including snorkeling, scuba diving, jet skiing, and parasailing. But getting out of the hotel zone could make an amazing trip even more memorable.

The region is packed to the brim with Mayan Ruin sites to explore. Chichen Itza, one of the wonders of the world, is only a day trip away and guaranteed to blow anyone away regardless of their inclinations for history.

The cenotes dotting the landscape are a unique geological feature of Quintana Roo, and make for a thrilling day jumping and swimming – some of them were even ritual sites for the Mayans, so don’t swim too deep.

5. Honeymoon Packages are everywhere

Cancun and Tulum know they’re impressive for honeymooners, and the hotels oblige this trend by planning honeymoon packages for the newlyweds. Not only are the packages decadent and luxurious, but they can often be pretty good value than putting it together yourself.

Expect all the frills, like romantic suites with welcome champagne, added beachfront dinners, special turndown services, and big discounts on add-ons like photo packages and spa treatments. You’ll also find a lot of the hotels put a little extra effort in for newly married couples, even just in day-to-day interactions.
