7 Cancun Airport Arrival Essentials As It Welcomes 600 Flights A Day

Last Updated

Even though Cancun is still in its last weeks of low season, the airport has seen a recent increase in flight arrivals, particularly on weekends.

Just last Saturday it had one of its best days since summer, with 564 total operations.

That much traffic makes for a busy airport, but seven Cancun Airport arrival essentials can help you navigate your arrival, as the airport welcomes nearly 600 flights a day.

Pre-Booked Transportation

One of the essential tips for arriving at Cancun Airport is to have your transportation pre-booked ahead of time.

This will not only provide the benefits of having your driver waiting when you arrive and knowing exactly what you’re paying for transportation but will help you avoid the “Shark Tank” as well.

The Shark Tank is an area located right before the airport exit where timeshare salespeople try to offer you transportation to get you to a sales meeting.

You can book transportation in advance through the airport website, directly through providers, or through a trusted third-party site like Viator.

Credit Card And Cash

Whenever and wherever you’re traveling it’s always a good idea to carry both cards and cash with you.

Both credit cards and American money are accepted in Cancun, but different businesses prefer different types of payment, so it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.

You may even want to exchange some of your money for pesos, just to have all of your bases covered.

Convenient Location For Passport

One of the most essential items to carry with you when you’re traveling is a convenient, and safe, place to carry your passport.

This is the most important document you’ll carry on you while traveling, and showing up to immigration without it or losing it while you’re traveling can cause big problems.

You want to be able to easily access it when arriving at the airport and you want to keep it in a safe place once you get to your hotel.

Phone Data

While it isn’t always the case, in some cases, you may need to think about data for your phone.

It depends on the carrier you use, as some include free data when traveling to Mexico, although the service may be slower.

Other carriers may offer a flat daily rate, and then some charge for roaming, which can also be slower.

Your other option is purchasing a local SIM card, which may be less expensive, but your phone has to be unlocked.

Power Bank

The last thing you want is to arrive in Cancun with a dead phone and no way to charge it.

Rather than just opting for a charger that you have to find somewhere to plug in, though, a power bank may be a better option.

You can share with others you’re traveling with or charge multiple devices at once, which is especially beneficial for the return flight when you have to be at the airport three hours ahead of departure.

Important Numbers

It’s also essential that you save important numbers in your phone that you might need in case of an emergency.

It doesn’t hurt to have an address book with important numbers too, in case your phone is lost or stolen.

Numbers for family and friends, the U.S. consulate in Mexico, local authorities, and your transportation provider are all good ones to have.

Hotel Information

Last but not least, you should have all of your hotel information handy when you arrive at Cancun Airport.

The address to give to your driver and the phone number in case you’re delayed getting there.

While all of this can be looked up quickly enough, it can’t be if you lose your phone or it isn’t charged, so you’re better safe than sorry.

Ensuring that you have these essentials will make for a smooth arrival at Cancun Airport
