While hotel occupancy rose to new heights this holiday season, the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) stated that tourism was most active in Cancun’s beaches.
Expedia classified Cancun as the top vacation destination choice for Americans for the 2021 travel season.
The majority of tourists in the city were found to spend their time at Cancun’s famous beaches. Here’s a look at some of the areas most attractive beaches.
Puerto Morelos Beach
The intimate beach of Puerto Morelos Beach attracts tourists with its tranquil atmosphere. The beach is nestled in a small village commonly used for fishing and offers snorkeling on its crystal clear waters. The beach also includes a leaning lighthouse and a beach club to its mix of local and tourist visitors.
X’cacel Beach
X’cacel Beach is a beautiful white sand beach that attracts many tourists throughout Riviera Maya. The beach offers a sea turtle conservation program and snorkeling for its visitors and is located in a relaxing and secluded place.
Akumal
Akumal is a small beachfront town located about 60 miles south of Cancun between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Its name means “place of the turtles” in Maya which is exactly what can be found at this beach. Tourists can snorkel in the clear waters while witnessing beautiful sea life.
Playa Maroma
Playa Maroma contains beautiful blue waters and an overall large size, which classifies it as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The beach is located around multiple resorts and is a common site used for jet skies and boats.
Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve
The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve includes more than a million acres, numerous habitats, and 23 small yet historical archaeological sites. Small hotels and homes are located near the site for tourists to rent. Tourists can embark on a tour or arrange a fishing trip when visiting.
Playa del Carmen
Renowned Playa del Carmen is lined with endless boutique hotels and beach clubs. The site commonly attracts kiteboarders through its beautiful yet quiet atmosphere. More secluded beaches can be located a bit south of the gated community Playacar. This beach is also a popular location for a destination wedding.
Playa Delfines
Playa Delfines is the only beach in Cancun’s hotel zone that does not feature any hotels, restaurants, or anything else built on the site. The beach can easily be visited through bus or other vehicles and offers hygienic, well-maintained restrooms, a small playground, palapas for shade, chairs, umbrellas for rent, and lifeguards at bay.
With no shortage of breathtaking beaches offered in Cancun, its no surprise that the city was recently the most searched-for vacation destination by tourists.
